BOYS' SOCCER: Rocketeers hand Foxboro first setback

Dighton-Rehoboth’s Keith Rose had four goals against Wareham.

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Colin Goodwin kept making the saves, while Diego DaSilva and Toby Berkowitz kept clearing the ball away and that defense enabled the North Attleboro High boys' soccer team to stop previously-unbeaten Foxboro High 2-0 Monday in a Hockomock League match.

Senior midfielder Sam Ocel scored both goals for the Rocketeers, one in each half, as North improved to 4-1-1 on the season.

"Colin made some good saves," North coach Steve Santos praised the work of his netminder, who totaled six saves. The Warriors (4-1-1) also generated three corner kicks, but most of their shots were taken from outside the box.

"We were battling in the second half," added Santos of North fending off Foxboro's extensive pressure in the attacking zone. "They were pushing up, but they couldn't get the breaks that they needed."

The Rocketeers seized the lead in the 13th minute of the match when Ocel converted a corner kick taken by Christian Pirnie. North had a handful of other good scoring chances throughout the first half, mostly off of Pirnie throw-ins, but Foxboro goalie Sean McLaughlin and the Warrior backline met the test.
Goodwin preserved the one-goal lead for the Rocketeers by halftime by making a leaping save off of a Jaime Sinno point-blank header in the 27th minute, tipping the ball over the bar.

Ocel gave North some breathing room, but that didn't occur until the 71st minute, on a counterattack with Justin Crear assisting. "Give Foxboro a lot of credit, he (coach Pat Nash) has them playing good soccer," added Santos. "We did a good job of cleaning things up."

North returns to action Wednesday afternoon with a home match against Bishop Feehan, while Foxboro will entertain Mansfield in a Hockomock League match that day.

EASTON - Senior midfielder Joel Diamand scored a pair of first-half goals and set up a second-half tally by Matt Heagney with three minutes left in the Hockomock League match as the Warriors prevailed.

Diamand scored the go-ahead goal for KP in the sixth minute on a partial breakaway and then scored what proved to be the match-winning goal on a similar excursion in the 35th minute.

OA narrowed the margin to a goal when Dylan Hawkings converted an early second half penalty kick in the 47th minute. Heagney regained a two-goal lead for KP in the 77th minute. The Warriors had a wide edge in shots (24-9). KP senior goalie Mike Colella made eight saves in goal with some outstanding defensive support from Pat Dowling.

The Warriors, now 4-2, entertain Franklin Wednesday.

REHOBOTH - Junior striker Keith Rose scored four goals, two in each half as the Falcons crushed the Vikings in a South Coast Conference match at the Bliss Soccer Complex. Rose scored goals in the first half at the 29- and 30-minute marks and second half goals at 43 and 45.

Carlos Alvarez added a pair of goals, while Shane Hall, Greg Moulding and Tyler Rosa each netted a single score. The Falcons, which held a 6-0 halftime lead, totaled 25 shots. D-R (5-2, 5-1 SCC) travels to Bourne Wednesday.

Medfield 3, Norton 1

MEDFIELD - Scoring a pair of first-half goals, Medfield held off the Lancers in the Tri-Valley League match. The Warriors took the lead in the ninth minute and created a three-goal lead before Norton scored its lone goal.

Mike Kelly tallied for the Lancers in the 71st minute, converting a cross from Chris Lenihan. "They're a quality team and we had only two or three quality shots," said Norton coach Eric Greene. "We couldn't get much going (two corner kicks)." Norton (4-2) meets Dover-Sherborn Wednesday.
