Forecasters are calling for a third strike and then out today for heavy rains that have blasted much of Southern New England since Friday.

About 3.2 inches of rain had fallen in Attleboro between Friday morning and early Saturday night, with the end still a good day away, the city water department reported.

Local police and fire departments reported no street flooding Saturday.

However, the storm forced several event postponements and cancellations Saturday and today. The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees will play a day-night doubleheader at Boston's Fenway Park to end the regular season because Saturday's game was washed out.

Three-day rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected for Eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island, the National Weather Service in Taunton said Saturday night.
Showers, with patchy fog are expected this morning, with temperatures in the mid-60s. Tonight should be cloudy, with a chance of showers, and lows in the lower 60s.

Another 1 to 3 inches of rain are possible by daybreak today. The heaviest rain along the Interstate 95 corridor is expected to end by 10 this morning.

However, Kyle, which was upgraded to a hurricane Saturday night, may briefly hit a small part of the Massachusetts coast late this morning and early this afternoon, the weather service said.

The weather pushed the kickoff of a new free concert series at Patriot Place to today rather than Saturday.

Trebek will perform from 2 to 4 p.m. today in front of The Hall at Patriot Place and across from CBS Scene on the lower plaza of the new shopping center, next to Gillette Stadium on Route 1 in Foxboro.

Meanwhile, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Attleboro canceled its Touch-A-Truck event scheduled for today.

Several events scheduled for Saturday also were postponed or canceled.

The annual Rodman Ride for Kids, is now scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4, with all routes beginning and ending at 10 Lincoln Place in Foxboro. For more information, call 508-226-4588, e-mail dmceleney@bbbsmb.org. or visit rodmanrideforkids.org.

Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Norfolk's 30th annual fall fair has been postponed.

Attleboro on Saturday reached a high temperature of 70 degrees, at 2:30 p.m., the water department said. Saturday's low was 63 degrees, at 5:20 a.m.
The rain is expected to end Sunday night.

Monday's forecast is for cloudy skies, with highs in the lower 70s.
