White Hawks get home cookin'

Some soggy weather conditions at Attleboro High School's Tozier-Cassidy Field made for a wild afternoon of football for the South Attleboro White Hawks as they played host to the Central Falls Panthers and Burrillville Patriots.

FLAG WHITE kicked things off against the Panthers, and while the visitors opened up the game with a touchdown, it was all White Hawks after that. The defense of Brandon Sherman, Zack Gabriel, Eddie Porreca III, Jared Aguiar and Caleb Warchel kept Central Falls from picking up a first down after the initial score.

Trevor Koppy paved the way to the first White Hawk touchdown with a 60-yard run. Big runs were also had by Robert Jarest - who scored on a 60-yard run - as well as a 50-yard reverse from Gabriel. Not to be outdone, Porreca tallied a 25-yard run and Aguiar had one of 25 himself that ended in a TD. Scoring on the point after conversions were Ryan Morry on a quarterback keeper and Calvin Fisher on a reception from Jarest to cap off the scoring.

FLAG RED had a big day on both sides of the ball against Burrillville. On defense, Brian Walsh controlled the Patriots by pulling numerous flags while David Albert, Sebastian Myers and Anthony Hoyt kept the Patriots on their toes. Center Kyle McCabe kept a slick football from being an issue by making sure each exchange was taken cleanly by the South Attleboro quarterbacks, allowing Brandon Harris to take the White Hawks' first possession of the game 60 yards for a touchdown. Also getting in the scoring parade was Dylan Torres, who had a touchdown as well as an extra point conversion, and Jordan Nunes, who punched in the White Hawks' third TD of the day.

The MITEY MITE WHITE squad put a 28-6 win over the Panthers in the books. Mitch Daniel was the big ground gainer with over 200 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Blake Daniel also ran in his first touchdown as a Mitey Mite and Rayshaun Santos, Tyler Koppy, Aidan McKenna and Justin Bobola all contributed by converting the point after attempts. Defensively, the White Hawks were rock solid, with Adam Garcia, Jason Bobola, Cody Gale, Rory McCarthy and Billy Reynolds all contributing with tackles and Gale recovering two kickoffs from the Panthers. The JUNIOR PEE WEE squad followed with a strong defensive effort of its own, but came out on the short end of a 6-0 score. While much of the game was played between the 30's, the White Hawks had a chance to punch the ball into the endzone in the closing minutes of the game, but couldn't capitalize. Michael Lee, who had a big day running, and Cam Hochwarter, who caught a beautiful catch from quarterback Xavier Torres, all worked hard to try to get the Hawks on the board.

Defensively, the White Hawks were once again tough with Roy, Hardy, Hoo-DelValle, Dutremble, Souza, Kefel, McSheffrey, Caruso and Frazetti shutting down the Panther offense and Hardy recovering a fumble.

PEE WEE was next and, while it was a long game for the White Hawks in a loss, they continued to improve in all aspects of the game. Quarterback Nick Desmarais improved in the passing game and, with the blocking of Justin Rioux, Eddie Casanova, Andy Marcotte, Ryan Packer and Keegan Cummings, Desmarais was able to complete passes to Jeremiah Dam and Brendan Massey.

The South Attleboro MIDGETS played the last of the home games against Central Falls, with the visitors winning by making the most of White Hawk turnovers. Good blocking was had up front by Cam Holander, Joey DaSilva and Tyler Ouellette, who opened up lanes for Jared Harris to run for 57 yards and catch a nice swing pass from QB Cody Freeman. Bobby Coughlin was a big key in the White Hawks' blocking, helping to keep Freeman on his feet. Overall, the defense played well, with a number of White Hawks making multiple tackles. Andrew Carello led the charge with six tackles, while both Stephen Choiniere and Sam Harrington each tallied four. Corey Bohannon, Colin Hood and Trenton Fontaine all contributed three tackles apiece.

The only White Hawk team not at home was MITEY MITE RED, which traveled to Burrillville. The White Hawks came away with a hard-fought, 19-13 victory.

With the game on the line, the White Hawks used nice blocking from Blake Vivieros and Nick Sidman, allowing Tyler McGovern to punch in a quarterback keeper and seal the game. Jacob Vieira also had another solid day running the ball. McGovern also benefitted from the downfield blocking of Nick Hook, Bradley Vivieros and Ron Blanchard, giving him the time to complete two touchdown passes to Steve Hammerski, one for seven yards and the other for 12 yards.

Chris Dam scored the conversion points after both Hamerski receptions. The White Hawk defense also stepped up big, shutting down Burrillville in the second half with Joshua Gravel coming up with a big sack and Sam Corrado making tackles all over the field. Nathan Butler, Isaac Vargas and John Signorelli also contributed defensively.
