MIKE GEORGEFun in the pool Henry Stihl, front, of Mansfield, navigates through a steam of water with his uncle Mike Dempsey during last Saturday’s opening and dedication of the new Spier Family Aquatics Center at the Hockomock Area YMCA in Foxboro.

The annual Foxboro Music Association bottle and can drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 in the town hall parking lot.

Students also will be going through Foxboro neighborhoods collecting redeemable bottles and cans.

The proceeds will support music enrichment for the Foxboro public schools, including music scholarships, and workshops with professional musicians.

For art's sake ...

Here are a couple of notes from the local art world:
Members of the Breton Bleu Art Group under the leadership of teacher Kim Morin Weineck are exhibiting their work at the Boyden Library this month.

Artists on display include Frank Quinn, Tony Donovan, Nancy Bacevich, Cynthia Kerr, Ann Gorbett, Haydi Hurley, Diane Duffey, Karen Bracchi and Jennifer O'Neil.

A reception is planned for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the library.

The library recently renovated the display space where the Foxboro Art Association hangs its members works and shows.

Breton Bleu's display is the first in the new space, downstairs across from the children's room.

The Hunakai Studio School of Fine Art will hold a fundraiser from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 at Christina's Function Hall on Route 1.

An art draw, raffles, and silent auction items all provided by area artists and business will be featured along with music provided by the Neponset Valley Philharmonic.

The proceeds will support "Finding the Artist Within: A Discovery Program for Seniors" in partnership with area council of aging organizations, Hessco and the University of Massachusetts Department of Memory and Cognition. The Hunakai Studio is offering this opportunity to study art to seniors in an integrated studio setting.

Tickets are $25 and are available at the Hunakai Studio, 106a Mechanic St. or may be reserved at the door.
