Rocking out in Foxboro

The Showcase Live Release Party was held Tuesday. night as James Montgomery performs.

FOXBORO - It was billed as a gathering of Boston's "Rock Royalty."

Members of legendary rock bands with local roots collaborated to throw a party Tuesday to celebrate the opening of Showcase Live, the upscale nightclub launched by National Amusements and Bob Kraft at Patriot Place.

Rockers ranging from Aerosmith's Joey Kramer to Boston's Barry Goodrow also paused to have their handprints cast in cement, along with National Amusements President Shari Redstone.

But mostly they rocked, joining as part of an all-star band fronted by durable New England bluesman James Montgomery and backed by his pals.

"One thing I know is that we all like music, we all like to have a good time and we all love to party," said Redstone, who welcomed about 400 local VIPs, music and broadcasting industry members and community residents.
The party, which was preceded by a procession of 25 motorcyclists from the local chapter of the Harley Owners Group, was intended to officially mark the opening of the 1,000-capacity nightclub.

"We wanted to have something like a grand opening," said National Amusements Vice President of Development Bob Steele.

Those attending were treated to a buffet that included shrimp and roast beef.

Entertainers and music fans alike both expressed approval.

"It doesn't seem like this is happening in Foxboro," said local resident Christine Leslie, who was favorably impressed by the entertainment and surroundings.

Jim and Debbie O'Driscoll of Mansfield said they wouldn't miss a chance to hear Montgomery, who they have known for years.

"He's one of the best harmonica players around," Jim O'Driscoll said.

Montgomery, who was the first performer to test the Showcase Live stage, couldn't resist tossing a bouquet in Redstone's direction.

"You know, Shari Redstone wanted to make this the most musician-friendly club in the country," he said, "and we appreciate it."

Other notables sharing the bill with Montgomery Tuesday were Extreme's Gary Cherone, Magic Dick of the J. Geils Band and Texas blues giant James Cotton.
