MANSFIELD - The town's veterans are getting a financial boost, thanks to local Democrats.
A check for $300 was presented Wednesday at the selectmen's meeting to the town's veterans department by Kevin Doyle, chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, and Devin Romanul, a Democratic candidate for state representative.
The money was raised during an August charity softball game between the town's Democrats and Republicans.
The Democrats prevailed in the second annual game, defeating their Republican rivals 29-14.
The Republicans raised money for the Mansfield Food Pantry.
Veterans Agent John Hogan said the money will be used to purchase flag holders for the graves of Mansfield veterans.
The decision to donate to the veterans was made after a poll of committee members, Doyle said.
"These people gave everything for their country," Romanul said. "We should do everything we can to give everything to them."
