CROSS COUNTRY: Hornets buzz to victories

FRANKLIN - With six consecutive runners across the finish line wearing Mansfield High jerseys, the unbeaten Hornet boys' cross country team ran past both Foxboro (15-49) and Franklin (20-41) Wednesday in a Hockomock League meet.

Sophomore Shayne Collins was the first Hornet to cross the line, taking second place at 15:59. Then, Pat Grimes, Pat McGowan and Kevin Meagher all clocked times of 16:11 for the next three spots.

Matt Hernon and Brendan Boyle finished within two seconds of each other for the Hornets (6-0), finishing 6-7 respectively.

**In an Eastern Athletic Conference meet, BISHOP FEEHAN cruised past Coyle-Cassidy. The Shamrock boys' team (5-1) created a 19-43 victory with Dave Phipps covering the 2.9 mile course in a winning time of 16:07. The Shamrock girls' team (6-0) posted a 17-44 victory as Jen Thomas, Viviana Hanley and Anisa Arsenault shared first place. The Shamrocks travel to Boston for the Bay State Invitational Saturday.

**Senior Andrew Swiderski broke his own course record as NORTON (3-2) defeated Dover-Sherborn in a Tri-Valley League meet. Swiderski clocked a time of 14:53 on the 2.7 mile course, two seconds faster than his previous best. Norton fell 15-50 in the girls' race. The Lancers host Bellingham and Ashland on Tuesday. **It was as tight as they come as the ATTLEBORO girls' team (2-3) squeaked by Taunton on a tie-breaker as the teams tied at 28. With the tie the winner was determined by the team with the highest finishing sixth racer, which was Kayla Robbins for Attleboro, who beat Taunton's sixth racer by just five seconds to give the Bombardiers a tight victory on the 3.1 mile course.

"That is why every point counts," Attleboro coach Marty Tighe said. "Even if you're not on the varsity team there's still the possibility of you knocking on the door of winning."

Attleboro's boys (2-3) fell 22-35. The Bombardiers head to Boston for the Bay State Invitational on Saturday.
