MIKE GEORGEBacking Bowles U.S. Rep. James McGovern, left, appears at City Councilor Bill Bowles’ primary victory party held last week at Morin’s Restaurant. He has announced his support for Bowles in his race against fellow Councilor George Ross.

ATTLEBORO - U.S. Rep. James McGovern has endorsed Bill Bowles in the race for state representative in Attleboro.

"I am very pleased to endorse Bill Bowles for state representative," McGovern, D-Worcester, said.

"I've known Bill for many years, and I admire his long-standing commitment to the people of Attleboro.

"I'm proud to call him my friend. During these difficult economic times, Bill's experience as finance chair on the council will help lead Attleboro and the commonwealth into a better future."

Bowles, a Democrat, is running against Republican George Ross for the seat being vacated by state Rep. John Lepper, R-Attleboro.

" The endorsement by Rep. McGovern, one of the more liberal members of our Congressional delegation, is enough reason for me to choose George Ross.

The Massachusedtts legislature does not need yet another liberal. It needs someone with balance and mature, not reactionary, perspective, like John Lepper had. That person is George Ross. "
