Top Headlines Gregory Pope was honored during the annual open house festivities for Mercymount, along with Geraldine Szpila Roszkowski of Cumberland, R.I. Pope, who lives in North Attleboro and is married to Linda, has been actively volunteering at the school since 1997, where his three children - Brittany, Amanda and Gregory - are now alumni of the school. Pope gave much of his time to the sports programs, beginning as a coach for biddyball. Over the years, he has also been involved with the tennis, basketball and volleyball teams, serving on the sports committee; he later became the chairman of the committee for five years. He also served as liaison between the school and the Catholic Athletic League of the Diocese of Providence and was instrumental in building the Pot of Gold Tournament to its present size. The basketball tournament raises an average of $10,000 per year for the school sports program, and provides a social, athletic and spirit building event for the region as well as the school.
