Norton town meeting voters OK water-sewer measures
Top Headlines The move would "ease the burden" on sewer users, primarily homeowners, who subsidize those with unused capacity, the finance committee wrote in its recommendation to Monday night's fall annual town meeting. Voters at the town meeting authorized selectmen to petition the Legislature for special legislation authorizing the board of water and sewer commissioners to establish sewer charges and related regulations, Town Moderator William Gouveia said Tuesday. Mansfield bills the town for Norton's total capacity at the wastewater treatment plant, which also serves Foxboro. Mansfield runs the facility, which is in Norton. Voters also passed two other water-sewer requests Monday, Gouveia said. They transferred $175,000 in water surplus funds to supplement engineering and construction funding to rehabilitate Well 3, on Newland Street. The project was last funded at the May 2007 annual town meeting. Another $209,900 was transferred from water surplus to water general expenses, where it will pay for utilities, chemicals and other operating costs during this fiscal year.
