NORTON - Community service might become a graduation requirement at Norton High School.
Superintendent Patricia Ansay supports it, and says Principal Raymond Dewar will propose the recommendation to the school committee.
In a recent memo to the board, Ansay said she asked Dewar 18 months ago to explore the community service learning idea.
He has since met with academic coordinators, faculty and the student council.
"Our students must be prepared to be contributing members of the 21st century. They can accomplish this partially through volunteerism," Ansay wrote.
"As our youths become ingrained to service at the high school level, they may find volunteerism and service to be a way of life. My hope is that by instituting a service program at Norton High School, we would be lighting a fire for a lifetime of civic participation."
