Join in children's program at Stony Brook

NORFOLK - Sidewalk minstrel Stephen Baird visits Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary for two afternoon weekend performances Saturday, Oct. 11 and Sunday, Oct, 19.

Baird's children's programs are highly interactive, family folk performances using guitars, dulcimers, mandolin and puppets. Audience members also dress up in costumes to participate in songs.

Also, walk the trails, and visit the Nature Center, where volunteers will be available with hands-on nature activities and demonstrations.

The free program is funded in part by a grant from the Norfolk, Wrentham, Franklin, Foxboro, Plainville, Medway, and Walpole Cultural Councils, local agencies which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.



Special voter session planned in Norfolk


NORFOLK - Wednesday, Oct. 15 is the last day to register to vote at the Nov. 4 presidential election.

Anyone who has not previously registered, is a new resident, or will become 18 on or before Nov. 4 may register by mail or at the town clerk's office during regular town hall hours, which are Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mail-in registration forms must be postmarked by Oct. 15 or earlier in order to qualify. On Wednesday, Oct. 15, the town clerk's office will hold a special voter registration session until 8 p.m.

Absentee ballots will be available for voters who are permanently disabled, hospitalized, or traveling. Absentee voting may be done either in person at the town clerk's office or by mail. To receive a ballot by mail or for further information about absentee voting, contact the town clerk's office at 508-528-1400.

'Ultimate Tailgating' class to be offered

NORFOLK - Norfolk Recreation will offer the "Ultimate Tailgating Cooking Class," on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at the The Grille at the Adirondack Club, 100 Chestnut St., Franklin.

Chef John Croatti will teach the class, with instruction in pre-game planning and essential equipment, as well as game-tested recipes and techniquest. Croatti is the former executive chef of the Berkeley Grille in Wellesley, and currently operates the Grille at the Adirondack Club. Registration and pre-payment are required. Join in history book discussion group


NORFOLK - A history book discussion group is being held at Norfolk Public Library.

Facilitated by Norfolk resident Chris Cleverdon, meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of each month, which began Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in the library lounge.

The book title for September is "1776" by David McCullough.

Join world affairs discussion group

NORFOLK - Are you concerned about global issues such as the Iraq war, trade with China, the U.S. economy and climate change?

A world affairs discussion group will meet at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at Norfolk Public Library.

The program is sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association (FPA), which provides background briefings and other nonpartisan information prepared by recognized leaders and scholars in regional and international affairs.

KP Class of 1961 plans 50th reunion


WRENTHAM - The King Philip Regional High School of 1961 is working on plans for its 50th reunion.

Tentative plans are for a three day weekend reunion from April 29-May 1, 2011.

Efforts are under way to locate classmates and formulate additional plans.
