Claire Jestus, 76

NORTON - Claire (McNeil) Jestus, 76, of Norton, formerly of Attleboro and Dighton, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 at her residence.

She was the wife of the late Howard D. Jestus.

Claire was born in Dighton, the daughter of the late George L. and Mildred (Gatzke) McNeil. Mrs. Jestus worked for Texas Instruments as a quality inspector for 25 years, retiring in 1994.

Claire was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Way in Raynham.

She enjoyed reading, gardening and crocheting.

Survivors are a daughter, Kathi Johnson of St. Cloud, Minn.; three sons: Glen Jestus of Norton, Gary Jestus of Ham Lake, Minn. and Gene Jestus of Springfield, Mo.; a sister, Muriel McCain of Dighton; a brother, Vernon McNeil of Wrentham; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. in the Lutheran Church of the Way, 110 Robinson St., Raynham.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

Burial will follow in Rehoboth Village Cemetery, Rehoboth.

FOXBORO - Judith Ann Carroll of Foxboro, formerly of Hyde Park, died on Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008 at the Colony Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Abington. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Miller) Carroll.

Judy was born in Norwood and raised in Hyde Park.

She worked for the Timberland Outlet Store in Wrentham.

Judy enjoyed crafts such as jewelry making, photography, cooking, pottery, wood burning and seamstress work.

She also enjoyed painting, especially with watercolors.

Judy was a devoted sister, aunt and niece and loved spending time with her family.

She was the beloved sister of Susan B. Cooper of Abington, Peter J. Carroll and his daughter Kimberly of Maine and Danise Carroll-Small and her son Lawson, also of Abington.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Friday, Oct. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxboro.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Carpenter Street, Foxboro.

Rita Burgess, 72

ATTLEBORO - Rita M. Burgess, 72, passed away Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 in the Golden Living Center in Attleboro.

Born Feb. 18, 1936 in Norton, she was a daughter of the late Ferdinand and Florence (LaRosee) Dion.

She was a longtime resident of Attleboro Falls and the Attleboros, and a graduate of the Mansfield Beauty Academy.

Rita was naturally gifted with creativity and arts. She enjoyed children, animals, cooking and riding motorcycles.

Rita endured many challenges in her life, which also led her to many journeys and many friends. She was always trying to help those who were less fortunate than herself.

Her spirited personality kept both residents and staff "Chickees" entertained during her final years at the Golden Living Center in Attleboro.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Glennon of North Attleboro and Bobbie Hooper of Hull; her son, Robert Burgess of Phillips, Maine; a brother, David Dion of Crystal Springs, Fla.; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 in St. Mary's Church, Park Street, North Attleboro. Burial will be private.

Helen Roccia, 70

ATTLEBORO - Helen Roccia, 70, of Sterling Place passed away on Monday, Sept. 29, 2008 surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of the late John Roccia, who passed away in 1985 after 26 years of marriage.

Born Aug. 23, 1938 in Dedham, she was a daughter of the late Felix and Rose (Sanpetro) Fellini.

Helen has been a resident of South Attleboro for the past 10 years.

She grew up in Dedham and also lived many years in North Attleboro.

She graduated as valedictorian from Dedham High School in 1956 and earned a nursing degree in 1959 from the Mt. Auburn Hospital School of Nursing.

Many years ago, Helen and her husband owned the L & R Sub Shop and Sweet Stuff Bakery, both in North Attleboro, for many years. She also worked as a director of nurses at the Maples Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Wrentham for over 30 years before retiring in 1998.

She loved cooking, baking and reading but she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren, who affectionately referred to her as "nonni."

Helen was a longtime member of the Women's Guild at St. Theresa's Church in South Attleboro.

She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Lynda and Robert Coffill of South Attleboro and Rosemary and Jeremiah Long of Attleboro; a brother, Joseph Fellini of Norwood; three grandchildren: Nicole and Jennifer Coffill and Matthew Long; and many wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove St., North Attleboro.

Visiting hours will be held immediately prior to the service from 3 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

James Eastman, 49

FOXBORO - James Francis Eastman, 49, died suddenly in Foxboro on Monday, Sept. 29, 2008.

James was born in Framingham on Nov. 15, 1958.

He was a longtime Foxboro resident and a Foxboro High School graduate, Class of 1976.

While at Foxboro High School, he was named Massachusetts All State musician in recognition of his musical accomplishments.

He also attended the University of Lowell.

James worked for many years for Stop & Shop at various locations through out Southeastern Massachusetts.

He loved spending time with his family and friends. He also loved music and was a former bass guitar player for the Windwood Hollow Band.

He was an avid New England sports enthusiast.

He was the beloved son of Isabel B. (Sprague) Eastman of Foxboro; the loving brother of Brian W. Eastman of Foxboro and the late Scott J. Eastman; the devoted uncle of Daniel Scott and Heather Marie Eastman; the nephew of Walter Sprague of Wrentham and Margaret Kratzer of Foxboro; and the cousin of Robert Kratzer of Foxboro.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend calling hours on Thursday, Oct. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxboro.

Joan Burton, 75

FOXBORO - Joan H. (Jackson) Burton of Foxboro died peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 at the Epoch of Norton after a brief illness. She was 75. Mrs. Burton was the beloved wife of the late Clyde E. Burton.

Born in Boston on Feb. 4, 1933, Mrs. Burton was the daughter of the late John and Josephine (Munzing) Jackson.

She lived most of her life in Foxboro and was a former employee of the Ellkim Corp. in Foxboro.

Mrs. Burton is survived by her two daughters, Pamela Burton of Kansas and Cheryl Dabreu of Norton; and her two sisters, Pauline Cataloni of Franklin and Geraldine Damarell of Norton. She is also survived by her three grandchildren: Samantha Downs, Paul Abildgaard and Nikki Abildgaard; and three great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Oct. 4 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Cemetery in Mansfield. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
