An obituary was reported for John J. Cox, Sr., 81 of Port Orange, Fla.

PORT ORANGE, FLA.
- John J. Cox Sr., 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Cox was born in Boston, and moved to Port Orange, Fla., in 1997 from Holbrook.

He retired in 1992 as a corrosion technician for the Boston Gas Co. after 35 years. He proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Navy medic.

He was a Mason and a deacon for many years at St. John's Episcopal Church in Holbrook.

He loved miniature painting, fishing, live theater and traveling.

Mr. Cox leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 54 years, Jean; his daughter, Marilyn Cox of Port Orange; his son, David Cox of Nashua, N.H.; his daughter, Beverly Glassman of Norton; and seven grandchildren: Ronnie, Amanda, David, Jessica, Michael, Andrew and Valerie.

Mr. Cox is preceded in death by his son, John J. Cox Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Volusia/Flagler, 3800 Woodbriar Terrace, Port Orange, FL 32129.

Arrangements are under the care and trust of the Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Port Orange.
