Yvette Hebert Thomas, 76

AUSTIN, TEX.
- Yvette Hebert Thomas, 1932-2008, passed away peacefully at home in the early morning of Sept. 13, 2008 in Austin, Texas surrounded by her family.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Lt. Col. Tyler Thomas and their five children: Anne Quiroga and her husband Guillermo, Mark Thomas and his wife Candice, Susan Thomas, John Thomas and his wife Alma and Charles Thomas. She will also be missed by her seven grandchildren: Marina Thomas, Amber Gulvin, Willy Quiroga, Sienna and Emma Blaw, and Lindsy, Kayla and Christian Thomas; along with her brother Donald Hebert and her sister Joanne Spera and her husband Paul and their families.

Born in Attleboro on Jan. 14, 1932 to Archille and Rose Hebert, Yvette moved to Texas in 1953 and met Air Force pilot Tyler Thomas in San Marcos. She spent the first years of her marriage traveling and raising her children in Florida, Washington, D.C., Bolivia, Peru, Massachusetts and Delaware, where she earned her degree in education. These experiences provided many opportunities to share her love of traveling with her children and grandchildren. Every trip was an adventure. After moving to San Antonio, Texas, she taught first grade at Holy Spirit Catholic School for 20 years. She was a dedicated member of St. Mark's Catholic Church, where she volunteered many hours embracing her faith and sharing it with those she loved. She will be missed by her fellow parishioners.

Yvette found solace in gardening and shared her enthusiasm for birds, especially hummingbirds, with her grandchildren. She loved to knit for her children and grandchildren and had a passion for literature and history which she shared with family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 683 South Main St., Attleboro, with the Rev. Robert Blais and the Rev. James H. Morse officiating. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, Hospice Austin or Catholic Charities.



Michael S. Monahan, 43

ROWLEY
- Michael S. Monahan, 43, of Norton, formerly of Rowley, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Atteboro.

Mr. Monahan was born in Danvers on Sept. 20, 1965, the son of Richard M. and Ellen A. (Keniston) Monahan of Rowley.

Michael was a graduate of Triton High School, Class of 1984.

He worked at Market Basket in Rowley and later for Covidien in Mansfield. His biggest joy in life was making many friends.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Elizabeth Monahan of Newburyport, and Mark and Debbie Monahan and Kevin and Palma Monahan, all of Rowley; two nephews, Patrick Monahan of Rowley and Kyle Monahan of Newburyport; and a niece, Meghan Monahan of Newburyport.

He was predeceased by a nephew, Ricky Monahan.

Graveside services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Main Street Cemetery, Route 1A, Rowley. Relatives and friends are invited.

There will be no calling hours.

Adrianne Blake Horton, 77

ATTLEBORO
- Adrianne Blake (Hoffschir) Horton, 77, of Pine Street, Attleboro, died unexpectedly on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008 at her residence following a sudden illness.

Born in Providence on July 10, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Albert H. L. and Edith B. (Fuller) Hoffschir. She was raised and educated in Rehoboth, where she resided for most of her life until moving to Attleboro 15 years ago.

Ms. Horton was a graduate of the former Dighton High School.

She had been employed by numerous local companies as a secretary prior to her retirement.

In Rehoboth, Ms. Horton was a member of the Rehoboth Village Congregational Church, and since moving to Attleboro was a member of the Second Congregational Church.

Currently, she was secretary of the Garden Terrace Tenants Association.

She joined the Anawan Grange 221 on April 12, 1966 and remained a member for the rest of her life. She also joined the Oakhill-Seekonk Grange 212 as an affiliate member, and served as secretary for 12 years. She continued with her affiliate membership to the Swansea-Oakhill-Seekonk Grange 148.

While a member of the Anawan Grange, she held several offices including master from 1977 to 1978, Lecturer, Flora and Community Service chairperson. She will be remembered as always willing to assist others, and was a member of the Ladies degree team for many years. She received her Silver Star Certificate in 1981 for her 25-year membership.

As a member of Bay State Pomona 33, she held the office of secretary and member of the executive committee. She also served on the Legislative Committee and the Conservation and Ecology committees.

Ms. Horton was a member of the Massachusetts State Grange, and served as a delegate to the state Grange session on numerous occasions.

She lived by a mantra of helping others, and would often volunteer her time at local nursing homes supporting her neighbors by caring for them.

A devoted lifelong animal lover, she enjoyed making scrapbooks.

She leaves a sister, Arline Gaisford of Westport, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation has been respectfully omitted.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a graveside funeral service on Monday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. at the Rehoboth Village Cemetery, Bay State Road, Rehoboth with the Rev. Vern Wright, pastor of the Second Congregational Church, Attleboro, officiating.

Burial will follow.

Following cemetery services, an invitation will be extended to join her family and friends for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at the Anawan Grange, Bay State Road, Rehoboth.

Margaret "Peg" Urquhart, 92

CUMBERLAND, R.I. - Margaret "Peg" Urquhart, the widow of Norman R. and the late Clarence M. Urquhart, died on Oct. 14, 2008.

She was born Nov. 20, 1915 in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, the daughter of the late John William and Helen (Davidson) Taylor.

She came to the United States in 1936 and lived in Hawthorne, N.Y., later living in Providence and South Attleboro before moving to Cumberland, R.I. in 1969.

A member of Four Corners Community Chapel in the Diamond Hill section of Cumberland, she had served as a deacon. She was a member of the Pawtucket Women's Club, Lincoln Garden Club and Hope Chapter 41 O.E.S. in Attleboro.

She worked in the purchasing department at L.G. Balfour for 15 years.

She loved to cook, bake, knit, sew and travel.

She leaves one daughter, Helen James and her husband Owen in Attleboro Falls; one son, Edward M. Urquhart and his wife Barbara in Mattapoisett; five grandchildren: Joseph James and his wife Susan of Peoria, Ariz. and Cape George, Nova Scotia, Scott James and his partner Jerry Cain of San Francisco, Calif., Christopher James of Pawtucket, Kim Uttermann and her husband John of Bellingham and James Urquhart of North Attleboro; three great-grandchildren, Owen James and his fiancee Stevie Maurer, of Belton, Mo. and Collins and Andrew Uttermann of Bellingham; one step-son, Paul Mongeon of Woonsocket, R.I.; three step-grandchildren, Deborah Mongeon of Jerome, Ariz. and Daniel Mongeon and Elaine Mongeon of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Brenton Taylor of Halifax, Nova Scotia; three sisters, Carrie Irene Muir of Wrentham; Zela Fairhurst of Westville, Nova Scotia and Ethel Gordon of Acushnet; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Four Corners Community Chapel on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 11 a.m.

Sister Lorraine Paille, CSC, 83

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Sister Lorraine Paille, CSC, 83 (Sister Margaret of Hungary) died Monday, Oct. 13, 2008 at the Holy Cross Health Center in Manchester, N.H.

She was born in Attleboro on Aug. 30, 1925, the daughter of Leon and Marie-Anne (Belanger) Paille.

She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Holy Cross in 1944 and made her final profession in 1951. She served in the Congregation for 64 years.

She leaves a brother, Donald Paille of Attleboro; a brother in-law, Donald Trahan; a nephew and several nieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:15 a.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow in St. Augustin Cemetery.

William Ernest Buchanan, 69

ATTLEBORO - William Ernest Buchanan, 69, of North Avenue, Attleboro, died on Columbus Day, Oct. 13, 2008 at his residence surrounded by the love and dedication of his family. He was the husband of Janice May (Flannery) Buchanan, to whom he was married on July 5, 1958, and recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary.

Born in Newport, Vt. on Dec. 21, 1938, he was a son of the late Guy and Lola (Pilbro) Buchanan. Raised and educated in Vermont, Mr. Buchanan was a 1957 graduate of Newport High School and earned his associate's degree in business administration from the former Gray Business School in Portland, Maine.

He honorably served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Navy on Aug. 27, 1957, and achieved the rank of RDSN at the time of his discharge on Nov. 23, 1959, after which he served for four years as part of the Naval Reserve program. He served aboard the USS Goodrich.

Mr. Buchanan was employed as an employment specialist for Higher Enterprises in Walpole for many years, where he was responsible for assisting people with disabilities to find jobs.

A resident of the City of Attleboro for the past nine years, he was a prior resident of Plainville and Foxboro, and Morrisville, Vt., but resided in Massachusetts for most of his life, with the exception of some time spent in New Jersey.

An ardent cribbage player, he treasured the times spent in the company of his beloved family, and was an avid fresh water fisherman. He enjoyed the sounds of jazz.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, he leaves five children: William G. Buchanan of Irasburg, Vt., Michael R. Buchanan in South Dakota, Scott A. Buchanan of Mansfield, Denise M. Sawicki of North Attleboro and Tara L. Buchanan of Central Falls, R.I.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Annie Wescom of Morrisville and Alice Marckres of Morrisville; his mother-in-law, Pauline V. (Gaskins) O'Shea of South Boston; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Janice L. Buchanan, who died in February, and was the brother of the late Theresa Avery.

Marion Elizabeth Nason, 82

ATTLEBORO
- Marion Elizabeth "Betty" (Phinney) Nason, 82, of Wilmarth Street, Attleboro, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2008 at Miriam Hospital in Providence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Richard O. Nason, CW03, who died on July 2, 1992.

Born in Attleboro on Oct. 7, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Harold C. Phinney Sr. and Evelyn G. (Shank) Phinney. Raised and educated in Attleboro, Mrs. Nason was a graduate of Attleboro High School. Following high school, she received training at the former Brooklyn Nursery and Infants' Hospital in the Brooklyn borough of New York, after which she was employed as a baby attendant.

In later years, she was employed by Texas Instruments in Attleboro and for the City of Attleboro School Department in the high school cafeteria.

She resided in Attleboro for most of her life, with the exception of her career time in New York and two years spent in Jacksonville, Fla. and five years spent in Ohio while her husband was enlisted in the United States Armed Forces.

Mrs. Nason was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Attleboro.

She treasured the times spent amidst family and friends and will be lovingly remembered for her outgoing personality and charm for conversation.

Mrs. Nason was a member for more than 25 years of the People Enjoying Active Living - P.E.A.L. Club in Attleboro for which she served two years as president; was currently serving as the president of the Attleboro chapter of the AARP that she was a longtime member and previously served as the organization's vice president. Currently, Mrs. Nason was president of the Attleboro Round Table, where she was a member for many years. She was a longstanding member of the former Oak Hill Grange.

She enjoyed the tranquility and peacefulness that encompassed lighthouses.

An ardent bowler, she also enjoyed traveling.

She leaves two sons, Raymond H. Nason and his wife Lisa (Ledoux) Nason of Attleboro and Richard M. Nason of Warwick, R.I.; a daughter, Vicki Logan and her husband Richard Logan of Fairmount, Ind.; six grandchildren; one great- grandchild; a sister, Evelyn V. Phinney of Attleboro; a brother, Harold C. Phinney Jr. of Tampa, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Lillian Regan.

Hans Albert Stather, 73

ATTLEBORO
- Hans Albert Stather, 73, died on Monday, Oct. 13, 2008 after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was the son of the late Henry K. and Hilda E. (Berger) Stather.

Hans was born on Nov. 13, 1934 in Mannheim, Germany, where he attended trade school. He and his wife Mary were married on Fishers Island, N.Y. on Oct. 29, 1955. He was a former longtime resident of Foxboro, and has been a resident of Attleboro for the past 21 years.

Hans was the owner and operator of the Henry K. Stather Painting and Decorating Company in Attleboro for 50 years. He retired in 1996. He started the soccer program in Foxboro in 1967, and in 1998, a soccer field at the John J. Ahern School in Foxboro was dedicated in his name. He was the head coach in Foxboro Youth Soccer for over 20 yeas.

He was the beloved husband of 53 years of Mary (Rogan) Stather; the loving father of Susan and Jim Bansfield of Plainville and John and Connie Stather of Foxboro; and the devoted grandfather of Jennifer, John and James Stather.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend funeral services on Friday, Oct. 17, starting at 9 a.m. at the Roberts & Sons Funeral Home, 30 South St., Foxboro followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Carpenter Street, Foxboro. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Attleboro.

Renee B. Balliro-Cosson, 49

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours today, Wednesday, Oct. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107), Revere, for Renee B. Balliro-Cosson, 49, who died unexpectedly at her North Attleboro home on Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008.

Mrs. Balliro-Cosson's funeral service will be held following the visitation period at 8:15 p.m. in the funeral home. She was born in Boston, raised and educated in the Westwood public schools, and was a 1978 alumna of Westwood High School.

She lived in Revere for several years until she moved to North Attleboro eight years ago.She is lovingly survived by her father, Rosario C. "Billy" Balliro and his wife Linda L. of Revere and her mother, Maryanne (Tardiff) St. Sauveur of Las Vegas, Nev. She is the mother of Jack Brophy and his fiancee Beth Duffy of Pawtucket and Steven MacLellan Jr. of North Attleboro. She is the devoted sister of Michael T. Balliro of North Attleboro, William J. Balliro of Revere, Tia M. Balliro of New Hampshire, George Patnode of Florida, Jeffrey Patnode of Revere and the late Michelle Balliro-Cummings and Lisa Patnode. She is also survived by her grandchildren, MacKensie and Madison Brophy, both of Rhode Island, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. She also leaves her fiance, Steven MacLellan Sr. of North Attleboro.

Interment will be held privately at a later time, in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 1 Bulfinch Place, Boston, MA 02114-2931.
