Ronald Blake, 64

NORTH ATTLEBORO — Ronald L. Blake, 64, of Circle Court, North Attleboro, passed away Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008 in Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro. He was the husband of Sandra (Erickson) Blake.

Born in Phillilli, W.Va. on Sept. 12, 1944, he was the son of the late Brent and Louise (Welch) Blake. Ronald was raised and educated in West Virginia.

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Ronald worked as a machinist and retired from the Foster Forbes Glass Company in Milford.

He enjoyed watching NASCAR racing and spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Sandra, he is survived by two children,  Shannon and her husband Kevin Donovan of Dover, N.H., and Shad and his wife Kendra Blake of North Attleboro; four grandchildren: Blake Donovan, Brooke Donovan, Emma Blake, and Kyle Blake. Also survived by two brothers and four sisters.

At the request of his family, all funeral arrangements at the John J. Diamond Funeral Home are private.

James Kinney Sr., 81

PLAINVILLE — James Jewel Kinney Sr., 81, of Washington Street, Plainville, died on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of Rita E. (Bienvenue) Kinney to whom he was married on Nov. 28, 1946 at the former St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in the Hebronville section of Attleboro.

Born in Cranston, R.I. on March 5, 1927, he was the son of the late Basil and Marion (Pike) Kinney. He resided in Attleboro for most of his life prior to moving to Plainville.

Mr. Kinney proudly served his country from April 1944 until May 1946 with the U.S. Navy during the World War II era. He achieved the rank of first class storekeeper and was the recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, the American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal with two stars. 

Prior to joining the service, he was employed from 1943 until 1944 for Apco Mossberg Torque Tool Company in Attleboro as a toolmaker.  For more than 50 years, Mr. Kinney was the owner and operator of Turo Engraving Company in Attleboro.

He served as a coach, manager and treasurer of the Attleboro Little League from 1957 until 1980. Mr. Kinney was the co-founder of the Attleboro Junior All-American Football League in the 1970s.

Over the course of several decades, he volunteered thousands of hours to the youth of Attleboro and the sports programs devoted to them.

He was a former member of the City of Attleboro Recreation Committee.

Mr. Kinney was an avid Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He loved trout fishing and taught the sport to all of his children at his favorite locations — Chartley Pond and the Norton Reservoir. He especially loved fly fishing from a small boat on Cliff Pond on Cape Cod.

His all-time favorite television show was M.A.S.H. When he was younger, he played softball and fished extensively.

As a “war buff,” he enjoyed learning the history of the Civil War and World War II eras.

Cookouts were among his favorite pastimes and will be lovingly remembered for his ability to tell stories while spending time in the company of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

The family enjoyed vacations planned and organized by “Dad” and visited many places including New Hampshire, Newport, R.I., Cooperstown, N.Y., Gettysburg, Pa. and numerous other road trips including those to Cape Cod.

In addition to his wife of 61 years, he leaves three children: James J. Kinney Jr. of West Barnstable, Paula M. Carter of South Attleboro and Daniel T. Kinney of Plainville; four grandchildren: Alise, Traci, Timothy and Jesse; three great-grandchildren: Lexi, Cassidy and Kyleigh; three sisters: Dorothy Bergevine of Attleboro, Louise Hamilton of Attleboro and Joan Zarek of West Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Alice Horton and Marjorie Honeycutt.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation with veteran’s honors on Monday, Oct. 13 — Columbus Day — from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson House, 161 Commonwealth Ave. (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro. 

Those in need of a ride to visitation may simply call the funeral home at 508-695-0200 to make an advance reservation for such gratis transportation. Children’s room available during visitation.

The funeral cortege will be organized on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at noon from the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson House, 161 Commonwealth Ave. (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, and proceed to the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne for a 1:30 p.m. graveside funeral service. There will be no funeral service or opportunity to greet the family prior to the commencement of the funeral cortege.

Burial with full military honors will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mr. Kinney’s name may be made to either the Community Visiting Nurse Association, 10 Emory Street, Attleboro, MA 02703, or to the Sturdy Memorial Foundation Inc. to benefit the I.C.U., PO Box 2963, Attleboro, MA 02703. 

Floral deliveries must be received by noon on Monday, Oct. 13 in order to be displayed.

Donna Lee Padilla, 60

MANSFIELD — Donna Lee (Hanson) Padilla, 60, of West Street, Mansfield, died at her residence surrounded by her loving family on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard Walter Chase, who died on Aug. 24, 2007, and was the former wife of Ernest John Padilla of Whittier, Calif.

Born in Norwood on June 13, 1948, she was a daughter of the late Forrest Hanson Sr. and Winnifred (Parker) Hanson. A resident of Mansfield for the past 27 years, she previously resided in Norwood and California. During her youth she moved from Norwood to California with her family where she continued her education and was a graduate of Encino (California) High School, where she had adjoining lockers to the eventually famous Sally Field.  

Ms. Padilla devoted her life to her family and treasured the times spent with them creating meaningful memories to be cherished for a lifetime.

She leaves two children: Charles E. Costello Jr. of Mansfield and Amy M. Padilla of Attleboro; six grandchildren; and a brother, John Hanson of Carlsbad, Calif. She was the sister of the late Forrest Hanson Jr. 

Visitation has been respectfully omitted.

Funeral services and burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Community Visiting Nurse Association, 10 Emory Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.
