GIRLS SOCCER: Costa fuels AHS
SOMERSET - Jenna Costa played the role of distributor for Attleboro, racking up three assists as the Attleboro High School girls' soccer team cruised to a 4-1 victory over Somerset.
Costa picked up her first assist when she found Caitlin Eno for a goal eight minutes into the game. She then found Sarah Jennings 53 minutes into the game for Attleboro's third goal and Caroline Wompler eight minutes later for the fourth.
Eno scored the Bombardiers second goal, her second of the game, seven minutes into the second half with an assist from Kristen Mahoney.
The Bombardiers dominated the game offensively, racking up 25 shots on goal and nine corners. Jessica Geffrey played well from her outside mid posistion.
Attleboro (4-4-3) hosts Barnstable on Tuesday.
Bishop Feehan 0, Durfee 0
FALL RIVER - The Shamrocks continued their string of disappointing ties, drawing with Durfee.
"Very rarely are my kids in a 0-0 game," Bishop Feehan coach Paul Pontes said. "No one stepped up today. We had a lot of chances, just like we did in the King Philip game, we're just not making the smart plays when we get deep in the other team's end."
Feehan outshot Durfee 10-2 and had five corners to the home team's one, but couldn't find the back of the net.
"The passes are off the mark, the shots are a little bit wide," Pontes said. "The opportunities are there, the players just have to step up and find a way to put the ball in the back of the net. The goal just isn't big enough for us right now."
Feehan has now tied three games in a row and stands at 9-0-3 overall and 3-0-1 in the EAC. The Shamrocks welcome Notre Dame Academy of Hingham on Tuesday.
"It gets frustrating," Pontes said. "We've tied three games in a row and the last two we should have won."
Blackstone Valley Tech 5, Tri-County 1
FRANKLIN - Coach Sara Desrochers tried to make some changes to generate more offense for the Tri-County High girls' soccer team against Blackstone Valley Tech, but the gamble didn't pay off, as BVT scored three times in the game's final 10 minutes to pull away from the Cougars, 5-1.
Erica Jonasson scored in the second half off an assist from Julie Chesmore to cut the Beavers' lead to 2-1, but the Cougars couldn't generate enough offense to come all the way back. Desrochers attempted to make her team more offensively oriented by changing from two to three forwards, but it wasn't enough to keep Tri-County from falling to 8-2 overall.
The Cougars head to Cape Cod Tech on Tuesday. |
