Plainville selectmen back Brown
Top Headlines "I'm truly humbled by the support of these individuals and grateful that they have chosen to endorse my candidacy," said Brown. "I have worked hard for the people of Plainville for the past 10 years and have enjoyed working alongside these dedicated officials and others." "Scott has always been a friend of Plainville, from his days as a state representative to his current position as a state senator. Through the years he has worked hard to advance our cause at the Statehouse. He is a neighbor that knows Plainville and is someone we can trust to help us during these difficult fiscal times," said Rob Rose, chairman of the Plainville Board of Selectmen. Selectmen Andrea Soucy and Robert Fennessy also endorsed Brown. Sierra Club backs Orozco The 26,000-member Sierra Club of Massachusetts has announced the legislative candidates it is endorsing, including Brown's opponent, Sara Orozco. She is a Needham Democrat running against Brown, R-Wrentham, in a district that includes part of Attleboro and all of North Attleboro, Plainville, Wrentham and Norfolk. "The federal government has been largely absent from environmental protection, in many cases moving backward," said Phil Sego, chairman of the Massachusetts Sierra Club Political Committee. "States have been filling the federal void, making it absolutely essential to elect candidates who understand the issues and are prepared to act appropriately." Reception for Democrats The Massachusetts Democratic Party will host a reception for local candidates for the state Legislature Saturday from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Attleboro Arts Museum. Among the speakers will be: Sara Orozco, a candidate for state Senate; Councilor Bill Bowles, a candidate for state representative in Attleboro against fellow Councilor George Ross, a Republican; Devin Romanul, a candidate for state representative in Mansfield against state Rep. Jay Barrows, R-Mansfield; and state Sen. James Timility, D-Walpole, who faces a contest against Republican Jon Rockwood. The museum is at 86 Park St. Light refreshments will be served and donations are requested. JIM HAND covers politics for The Sun Chronicle.
