VOLLEYBALL: Foxboro nets tourney bid

STOUGHTON - It's been a long time coming, but the Foxboro High volleyball team got the job done Friday evening, clinching an MIAA Tournament berth that is.
Thanks to a 25-15, 25-17, 25-20 sweep of Hockomock League foe Stoughton, the Warriors got their 10th win of the season and will participate in the playoffs for the first time since 2001.
Foxboro (10-5) has won five of its last six matches.
Sophomore Katie Burke and senior Jenna Weiskerger both had big games serving and in the back row, Weiskerger with 15 service points and four aces. Senior middle hitter Samantha Briggs also played well at middle hitter for the Warriors, who take on North Attleboro on Monday.
North Attleboro 3, Sharon 2
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Also in the Hockomock League, the second-place Red Rocketeers jumped out to an early lead but needed five games to take care of Sharon, winning by scores of 25-11, 25-14, 23-25, 28-30 and 15-9.
North got solid play from junior Robyn Armstrong, who had four kills and a string on nine-straight service points in Game 2, including three aces. Ashley Kepaa and Kate Boisseau continue to kill the ball for the Rocketeers - literally - Kepaa with 17 kills on 24 hits and Boisseau with eight kills on 21 hits.
Senior setter Amy Chea added 15 assists and sharp defense while sophomore middle hitter Jennifer Perkins had five kills and five blocks.
North Attleboro (11-3, 10-3 Hockomock) travels to play Foxboro on Monday.
Attleboro 3, Taunton 1
ATTLEBORO - The Bombardiers closed in on an MIAA Tournament berth by beating Taunton in an Old Colony League match, 25-13, 26-28, 25-12 and 25-9.
In the decisive fourth game, junior Sarah Parker accounted for eight service points to put Attleboro in control. The Bombardiers (4-2 OCL, 7-7) gained the lead in the third game as captain Toni Vegiard had four service aces. On the front line, Laura Devine totaled 12 kills.
AHS visits Dartmouth Monday with first place on the line in the OCL.

NEW BEDFORD - In South Coast Conference play, the Falcons continue to hang around in the MIAA Tournament hunt as they moved to 8-9 overall with a 26-24, 25-13 and 25-19 win over Greater New Bedford.
Saddie Gosselin had a crisp night at the stripe, serving 22-for-22, including three aces, to go along with 11 assists. Nikki Hanson chipped in with nine kills for the Falcons, who host Wareham on Monday.
Seekonk 3, Wareham 0
WAREHAM - Katie Alpin had six aces as the Warriors swept Wareham in a South Coast Conference matchup - 25-23, 25-6 and 25-14.
The Warriors (4-9) entertain Bourne on Monday.
