Hockomock YMCA to mark America on the Move Week

NORTH ATTLEBORO - The Hockomock Area YMCA will be celebrating America On the Move with "walking school buses" in North Attleboro.
Ed Hurley, president of the regional YMCA, said these two-legged transports are, "designed to raise awareness about the importance of physical activity and providing safe routes to school, while celebrating national America On The Move Week."
"The Hockomock Area YMCA is proud to partner with the Franklin, Foxboro, and North Attleboro school districts and Dean College, corporate partners including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, Stop & Shop, and Garelick Farms, and many other community stakeholders on a variety of activities this week in support of healthy and active living in our region," Hurley said.
Highlighted events for the week include Walking School Bus events at six Franklin schools and two North Attleboro schools today, as well as a family walk on the Milford Upper Charles Trail from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 27. The Town of Foxboro will celebrate America On The Move Week with the running of its annual 5K Road Race on Sunday.
Throughout the week, the Hockomock Area YMCA will offer a variety of family-friendly special events and activities at its branches in Foxboro, Franklin, and North Attleboro, and community members are encouraged to contact their local branch for a complete listing of events.
"America On The Move Week, a partnership between the America On The Move Foundation and the YMCA of the USA represents a call to action for millions of kids and adults to respond to America's lifestyle health crisis," said Hurley, "and nationally our goal is to have 1.5 million people take small steps and collectively reach a goal of 10 billion steps while we encourage individuals of all ages to adopt healthy lifestyle choices."
