Legion leads drive to send packages to troops abroad

FOXBORO - The Foxboro American Legion's first "Operation Holiday Cheer" will send care packages to deployed troops for delivery by the holidays.

The deadline is Nov. 15.

The Legion seeks donations of the following items to complement items provided by veterans' groups. Non-perishable items, such as: personal hygiene items (male and female), baby wipes, Clorox wipes, foot powder, eye drops, suntan lotion, lip balm, hand sanitizer, foil wrapped tuna and chicken, instant soup, beef jerky, instant coffee, powdered Gatorade, Kool-Aid, granola bars, power bars, bubble gum, spices (onion, garlic, allspice, etc.), oatmeal, salsa, hot sauce, crackers, paperback books, magazines, DVD movies, etc.

The Foxboro Post Office will provide free boxes, packing supplies and the necessary custom forms for parcels sent to the troops stationed overseas. Items shipped to APO/FPO destinations are reduced by $2.

Items can be dropped off at the Foxboro American Legion Post 93 Lounge, 8 Mechanic St., daily from noon to 8 p.m. Items may also be dropped off at the post office, 15 Wall St., from 6 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays. For further information, call Legion Adjutant Jim Finn at 508-543-8053 or the post office at 508-543-5821.

The Legion asks the families to consider submitting the names and addresses of relatives or friends, so packages may be sent directly to them.

Donations would be appreciated to cover the cost of items not donated and the cost of postage. Names, addresses and donations should be sent to: Operation Holiday Cheer, Foxboro American Legion Post 93, P.O. Box 382, Foxboro, MA 02035-0382.
