NORTH ATTLEBORO - Third- and fourth-graders used the power of pictures to illustrate why electricity is important to them in North Attleboro Electric Department's annual calendar contest.
Students from schools across the district drew pictures and submitted them for the calendar contest.
Thirteen winners - one picture for each month, plus one picture for the cover - were selected by North Attleboro Electric out of 160 entries. The winners were presented with certificates on Wednesday.
Many of the winning students drew from their own life experiences when selecting a subject for their colorful drawings.
"If I didn't have electricity, I wouldn't be able to watch TV or use the computer. My mom wouldn't be able to cook and my dad wouldn't be able to use power tools," said Andrew Lamoureux, a fourth-grader from Community School whose drawing will be featured on the calendar's cover.
Alaina Mello, a third-grader from Saint Mary-Sacred Heart School, drew a picture of a kitchen, "because me and my mom make cookies every year for Christmas, and without electricity we wouldn't be able to do that."
Tyler Riel, a third-grader at Roosevelt School, clearly had sports on his mind when he drew a picture of a baseball diamond.
"I drew this picture because without electricity, I wouldn't be able to watch the Red Sox on TV," he said.
The free calendars, which will be available in mid-December, will be distributed at the town's schools and will be available for pickup at the North Attleboro Electric Department.
In addition to Lamoureux, Mello and Riel, the winners were: Anna Caristi, a third-grader at Amvet Boulevard School; Emily Chiasson, a third-grader at Roosevelt Avenue School; Kaylee Drew, a third-grader at Falls School; Julia Healey, a third-grader at Falls School; Kathleen Jourdenais, a third-grader at Allen Avenue School; Brooke Milosh, a fourth-grader at Martin School; Caroline Moriarty, a fourth-grader at Falls School; Olivia Ross, a fourth-grader at Falls School; Katie Sieber, a fourth-grader at Amvet Boulevard School and Justin Vo, a fourth-grader at Falls School. |
