Ex-RI man convicted of purse-snatching in 2005, and assault at North Attleboro mall

ATTLEBORO - A 21-year-old former Pawtucket man was sentenced to a jail term Wednesday after he was convicted of a purse snatching in South Attleboro and an assault at Emerald Square mall in North Attleboro in 2005.

Jeffrey C. Kane, who was 18 at the time of the offenses and who now lives in Cranston, R.I., was sentenced by Attleboro District Court Judge Gregory L. Phillips to serve six months of a maximum 2 1/2-year jail term.

The balance of the jail term was suspended for two years with probation and random testing for drugs and alcohol, authorities said.

Kane was convicted of stealing a purse from an 18-year-old woman at Lees Pond in South Attleboro on Oct. 27, 2005. He also was convicted of assaulting a 16-year-old boy at the mall the same day.
