Foxboro teen off Pats cheer squad

FOXBORO - A New England Patriots cheerleader and a former cheerleader for the Foxboro High School Warriors received her walking papers Tuesday, reportedly after online photos showed her posed over an unconscious young man with swastikas and other vulgar phrases and images scrawled all over him.

Caitlin Davis, 19, was the Patriots' youngest cheerleader ever when she made the squad after tryouts last spring.

Now, she's been fired mid-way through her first season, Patriots spokesman Stacey James said Wednesday.

James declined to say why Davis was fired.

However, two unflattering photos that have appeared on Facebook and onblastatlast.com and deadspin.com are behind the move, according to published reports.
One photo shows Davis on a futon next to an unidentified male who is lying covered in vulgar synonyms for sexual organs, and a swastika on his neck. Another photo shows Davis and an unidentified female friend holding Sharpie marking pens while sitting over him.

The daughter of Tim and Claire Davis of McKenzie Lane, Davis is a 2008 graduate of Foxboro High School. She was a cheerleader for the Warriors during her high school days.

The Davises could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

However, deadspin.com reported Wednesday that Caitlin Davis told one of its writers via e-mail that the photos were "taken out of context" and claimed that "she didn't draw anything on the individual."

A freshman at Johnson & Wales University, Davis told The Sun Chronicle last spring that she was drawn to the Patriots cheerleading squad partly because cheerleaders are required to perform community service.

"That's what I did growing up with my church youth group," she said, recalling helping charitable organizations like Habitat for Humanity and food pantries with the Mansfield Church of Christ.

"In addition to spreading a good image for the Patriots, you do some good things for others," she said.

" Jose's comment was hysterical....sorry but those cheerleaders are NOT out there saving lifes (and neither am I in my job however no one is talking about how important I am not right now). I agree they must work extremely hard (knowing how hard the high school cheerleaders train..the professionals must have it that much tougher)..but it's a fun gig for them....NOT a career. Anyway, my point is this.....the Patriots cheerleaders may as well be working at the Foxy....the first time I went to Gillette and saw the little princesses doing their pole dance minus the pole I almost fell over. I get it though (the men at the game love it and it's entertainment)...whatever happened to pom poms, cute saddle shoes and actually being there to help cheer(ummmm) the FOOTBALL team on. They're all half a step away from being strippers....they dress like them and dance like them. "

" Is being a Patriot's cheerleader that big a deal? It's a part time gig with lousy pay and no benefits. Sure if you like the attention on national TV fine, just don't expect to be "discovered".
In addition to the work, and it's hard work, they have to make all these charity appearances that make the team look good. I suppose there is the occasional compensated appearance - bit that's it.
Is there a career path? Do you have a shot at jobs in the Kraft organization.? "

" This young lady probably should not have been a Patriots cheeleader. She is not mature enough to realize the importance of being a Patriots cheerleader. It is a very big privilege to be a Patriots cheerleader and represent them. It takes a lot of self control and maturity to conduct yourself in a manner that all fans and players can be proud of the cheerleading squad. She got sucked in with some lowlifes and they took advantage of her. I hope she learned a good lesson on life. It will make a lasting impression on her and not a good one. Imagine going through all that work to become a Patriot cheerleader and throw it all away. I hope she makes better decisions in her future life and stays away from the lowlifes. "

" I think the point that makes it offensive and inappropriate for a Patriots cheerleader is not 'if' she wrote on the person who was passed out, it's that she posed for pictures with him as if she did and then posted them to her own Facebook site! Obviously she had no problem with her actions, as despicable as they were. In the second photo (posted on another website) makes her look downright sinister! It is sad that anyone would participate in such thing. And I think the Pats were right to let her go. It's not the image of a good role model. "
