Rehoboth voters OK an amended budget
BY LAURA CALVERLEY FOR THE SUN CHRONICLE
REHOBOTH - Voters approved the amended budget for fiscal year 2009, as well as a new solar energy project fund, during the special town meeting Monday night.
Special town meeting was necessary because voters defeated an override of the state's Proposition 21/2 tax-limiting law in July, which put the budget over the levy limit.
The budget presented and approved at town meeting did put the town under the levy limit, according to finance committee chairman Jack Sinibaldi.
The highly anticipated articles for funding for the Dighton-Rehoboth High School waste water system upgrade had not yet been discussed.
A motion was made by school committee vice chairman David Katseff to move one of the articles on the septic system up earlier in the meeting, but the motion was defeated. More than 500 voters attended the meeting.
A second night of special town meeting, if needed, will take place Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the high school.
Only six articles, including the budget, out of 17 had been addressed as of presstime. |
