GIRLS SOCCER: Scoring spree for Feehan

ATTLEBORO - It was an offensive explosion for the Bishop Feehan High girls' soccer team, and their coach wasn't even there to see it.
With coach Paul Pontes coaching the freshman team for the day Thursday, long-time assistant coach Jeff Messier earned a win in his varsity coaching debut as the Shamrocks trounced visiting Bishop Stang on Senior Day, 7-1.
"It was the most goal production we had all year," Pontes said. "I don't know if it was because it was Senior Day or it was just because I wasn't there."
Feehan seniors accounted for six of the Shamrocks' seven goals, as the team's 11 seniors celebrated Senior Day in style.
Senior Jamie Coyne found the back of the net first for Feehan, scoring her first goal at 12:30 off an assist from classmate Jenna Roncarati. It was the first of three goals on the day for Coyne, who usually plays midfield but played striker because of an injury to Siobahn Devoy.
Roncarati scored the second goal at 28:02, her first of two for the day, to give Feehan a 2-0 lead. After Stang responded by cutting the lead in half, Coyne scored her second goal off an assist from Erin Casey and sophomore Jess Miller, the only non-senior to score for Feehan, made the score 4-1 at half.
Roncarati scored the first goal of the second half, followed by Michele Flannery's first career varsity goal at 30:05. Coyne ended the scoring with just under two minutes left, completing the hat trick.
Senior goalkeeper Melissa Ellis and freshman Justine Miller combined for the win, each making four saves.
Feehan, at 12-1-3, is currently tied for the second seed in the postseason tournament with former Eastern Athletic Conference rival Dartmouth. The Shamrocks head to Needham on Saturday.
North Attleboro 3, Canton 0
NORTH ATTLEBORO - Emma O'Neill had her best game as the Red Rocketeers blanked Canton in their final home game of the season.
O'Neill scored two minutes in on a volley off a Kelly Schoorens corner kick to give North a 1-0 lead. Brini Varetimos followed 18 minutes later with a goal off a cross from Alex Rousseau to give the Rocketeers a 2-0 halftime lead.
Laruen Goldberg finished the scoring for North 17 minutes into the second half on an unassisted goal. Goldberg beat a defender on the left side before cutting back and ripping a shot from 14 yards out.
Shannon Morse and Kelsey Viens combined for the shutout for North, which improved to 5-8-4 overall and 5-6-4 in Hockomock League play. North ends its season on Monday at Stoughton.
Mansfield 3, Franklin 1
MANSFIELD - Down a goal just nine minutes into the game, the Hornets rallied to defeat visiting Franklin in a Hockomock League battle.
Kelsey Alexander tied the score at one in the 11th minute when she slotted home a pass from Meghan Ferreira from six yards out, and Shannon Hernon scored what would be the game-winner when she found a loose ball after a scrum in front of the next and knocked it in for a goal.
Allison Neagle rounded out the scoring in the second half with a beautiful free kick from just outside of 25 yards out that knocked off the far post on a line drive.
Goalkeeper Jackie McPherson made five saves in goal for the Hornets, who improved to 11-1-4 overall and 10-1-4 in Hockomock League play, one point behind first-place Oliver Ames. Mansfield travels to Milford on Saturday.
Oliver Ames 2, Foxboro 0
FOXBORO - The Tigers scored a pair of second-half goals - in the 52nd and 64th minutes of the Hockomock League match - and eliminated Foxboro from postseason consideration.
The Warriors had the wind at their backs during the first half with Rachel Jamieson and Carly Martyniak creating some good pressure and shots. However, the Warriors were unable to bounce back against the wind and after surrendering the early go-ahead goal. Foxboro (6-8-3) visits King Philip for a 6 p.m. match Monday.
