FARINELLA: Time to 'Ask Fearless'

Because you asked for it, and because the clock is ticking and the editor needs something quickly, it's time for another installment of "Ask Fearless," the recurring feature of your Blue Ribbon Daily in which readers get to ask me insightful questions, and hopefully receive equally insightful responses.
All of the questions are 100 percent guaranteed to be figments of my overactive imagination, but based upon shreds of truth as gleaned from the thousands of phone calls, e-mails, letters and drive-by curses sent my way over the past 30 years or so. Only the names have been changed to protect what's left of my 401k from laswuits.
Without further ado:
Dear Fearless: I seem to recall that you were one of those guys who was saying I should cut Matt Cassel at the end of training camp. What do you have to say now?-Bill B., the bunker
Well, I think it's an eventuality you're going to have to face next year, no matter what. Since I don't see you cutting Tom Brady, and I also don't see you spending the same kind of money to re-sign Cassel that some star-struck GM elsewhere will offer him, it looks to me as if the Kevin O'Connell Era may not be far behind. And that's assuming it doesn't start with next season's opener because Brady's knee has been spouting disgusting fluids for weeks after his surgery.
But yes, the kid's done well. And he'll get rich somewhere. Just not here.
Dear Fearless: I hope you aren't one of those guys who's writing that I'm going to get all (expletive deleted) off because I'm not getting the ball. I'm trying my hardest to get open, and that opens up all sorts of other stuff. That's my job, man.
-Randy M., Limbo
You're right, big fella. One of the points Belichick made on the radio the other day was that you were probably the most dominant player on the field against the Jets, even if you had only three catches, because you took a cornerback and a safety with you everywhere you went. That presented opportunities for Jabar Gaffney and Benjamin Watson to catch balls, and they did ... for the most part.
But that's what we call "underneath" stuff. You and Cassel still aren't stretching the field, and if that part of the offense doesn't kick in soon, teams are going to get wise to the fact that it's just not going to happen.
By the way, nice catch in the end zone, with Ty Law draped all over you.
Dear Fearless: "Patriot Hater" here. Hey, do you ever listen to those guys like DeOssie and Zolak and the rest of those guys after a Patriots loss, they're almost crying ... (rest of message deleted).
-actual phone call
This guy has become a regular on my voice mail lately. He calls early in the morning, when he knows I won't be in the office, and leaves lengthy messages complaining about the Patriots' coverage (mostly on TV) as if I would be interested. And to top it off, he called me "Steve" during one of his calls.
Here's a tip, "Patriot Hater." Don't waste your time or my voice mail's recording time. I don't care. I rarely watch or listen to the post-game shows because I'm actually working at the stadium trying to write a ton of stories for the next day's paper. What the TV people have to say at that particular time is of no interest to me.
Now, if you have a complaint about my coverage of the team, feel free to call me when I'm likely to be in or leave a phone number, or call my bosses. But if you want to vent and complain about other people covering the team, I suggest you call WBZ-TV or WEEI Radio, where those individuals work. WEEI, in fact, will give you about 20 seconds on the air before DeOssie, Smerlas, Ordway and Sheppard start shouting over you.
Dear Fearless: What has been your favorite memory from this high school football season so far?
-local fan
By far, seeing some of our formerly downtrodden teams - Attleboro, King Philip, Norton and Tri-County - go from the bottom of the pack to near the top. Norton and T-C just need to take care of business in their next games and they go to the playoffs. For Norton, that will be the first time since the mid-1980s, and for Tri-County, the first time ever. That's magical.
Dear Fearless: Seriously, wouldn't you like to be sitting next to me at a hockey game somewhere? I'd wear something nice for you ... the Republican National Committee saw to that ... and I'm sure we could talk about all sorts of great stuff like me playing basketball in the 1980s, me in a beauty pageant, me looking up where Africa is in a world atlas, and me running for president in 2012. Hope to see you there, sweetie! You betcha!
-Gov. Sarah P., Juneau
Simply stated: No thanks. On all counts. Especially that last thing.
