ATTLEBORO - Debris kicked up on Interstate 95 punctured a hole in the fuel tank of a hazardous waste cleanup truck, spewing an estimated 70 gallons of diesel fuel onto an exit ramp and Newport Avenue in South Attleboro on Wednesday morning, police and fire officials said.
The incident around 8:30 a.m. created a half-mile slick from the ramp from I-95 South to Newport Avenue, where the truck stopped near Park Circle. Firefighters used absorbent material to soak up the diesel fuel, which puddled near the truck, owned by Safety-Kleen Vacuum Systems, which has offices in Bridgewater.
Police blocked off one of the two northbound lanes on Newport Avenue (Route 1A) but there were no traffic problems.
