ATTLEBORO - Members of three city school department unions have agreed to contracts that offer no pay increases in the next two years, a symptom of tough economic times.
School department Business Manager Mark Furtado said about 65 members of the school custodians, clerical and maintenance mechanics unions agreed to contracts that include minor changes in sick leave and longevity pay, but no salary increases for the first two years.
The school committee ratified the contracts of the three unions Monday.
"Our employees have a good appreciation for the state of the economy, and wanted to work with us," Furtado said.
All three unions negotiated small pay increases for members in the third year of the contracts, ranging from 2 percent to 3 percent.
The new contracts would run through June of 2011.
