Learn about college financing at Feehan

ATTLEBORO - Students and parents are invited to attend a presentation on college financing Monday, Nov. 24 from 7 p.m. at Bishop Feehan High School on Holcott Drive, which is off Route 152.

A representative of the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority will discuss the financial aid process.

The seminar will teach parents how to apply for financial aid, compare financial aid letters, and seek financial options. Families will receive a seminar booklet.

Y's Thanksgiving Aerobithon returns ATTLEBORO - The Attleboro YMCA will hold its annual Thanksgiving Aerobithon from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27 at the Texins Activity Center

All are welcome to try Zumba, kickboxing, indoor cycling, aerobic dance, muscle conditioning, pilates and yoga. Donations for a local food pantry will be accepted at the door.

AHS Class of '93 reunion is Nov. 28

ATTLEBORO - The Attleboro High School Class of 1993 will hold its 15th reunion Friday, Nov. 28 at the The Moose Cabin, 220 O'Neil Boulevard.

ATTLEBORO - The Attleboro High School Class of 1988 will hold its 20th reunion from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29 at Gillette Stadium on Route 1 in Foxboro.

Stress workshop offered at VNA

ATTLEBORO - Community VNA and Bristol Elder Services will hold a free workshop on reducing stress from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 at 10 Emory St.

Participants will learn to identify personal stressors and learn tools to lessen their impact. Simple breathing techniques and yoga postures will be taught.

Information on area resources for caregivers will also be provided. Professionals, individuals and caregivers are welcome to this free program.

St. Joseph's 'Fare' coming Dec. 6

ATLEBORO - St. Joseph's Church, 208 South Main St., will hold its Christmas "Fare" from 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. There will be a luncheon buffet, 50/50 raffle, and family activities.

Parent program continues until Dec. 9

ATTLEBORO - The Total Achievement Program, through the support of the Department of Mental Health, is enrolling parents/caregivers for a 12-week session of The Incredible Years at 50 Walton St. Space is limited; participants should have reserved a spot by Sept. 19 by calling Jennifer Schwarz at 508-223-4109.

The Incredible Years is an award-winning, evidenced-based parenting model proven to increase parents' effectiveness, as well as family communication and problem-solving. It will be held Tuesday evenings from Sept. 23 to Dec. 9, with dinner from 5 to 5:30 p.m. and the group from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

While parents are engaged in the group, children are welcome to complete homework, play board games, read, or bring hand-held video games.

Sturdy to hold blood drive Dec. 29

ATTLEBORO - Sturdy Memorial Hospital will hold a blood drive from noon to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29 in the hospital's Rice-Webb Auditorium.

Sturdy is committed to bringing in at least 75 donors for the blood drive. All donors will receive refreshments and be entered in a raffle.

Y youth sports leagues offered

ATTLEBORO - The Attleboro YMCA announced winter youth sports programs and leagues for 2009.

Preschool programs include bitty indoor soccer, for girls and boys ages 5-6, Jan. 11 to March 8, and bitty basketball, for girls and boys ages 5-6, Jan. 10 to March 21.

Youth programs include youth indoor soccer, for ages 8 to 14 years, Jan. 11 to March 10, winter youth basketball league, for girls and boys ages 7 to 12, Jan. 9 to March 20; youth indoor field hockey, elementary school through high school, Jan. 10 to March 21.

TI Retirees head to Atlantic City

Lions help library get large print books

ATTLEBORO - The South Attleboro Village Lions Club, under the guidance of project chairwoman Bev Leedham, is continuing its tradition of providing large print books to the Attleboro Public Library. This year already, the club has donated several books, with more on order.

Since 1989, the Village Lions have donated more than 300 large print books to the library in order to help those with vision impairments. Working hand in hand with the library, Leedham gets a list of books the library would like to have in large print, and looks to find these books through her source, the Doubleday Book Club.

Wellness programs starting at YMCA

ATTLEBORO - New wellness programs are starting this week at the Attleboro YMCA.

Depression support group meets weekly

ATTLEBORO - DBSA (Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance) meets every Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hillside Adult Day Health Center at 50 Walton St., Attleboro.

The group is a peer led support group for people suffering with depression or who are bipolar, and is a chapter of a national organization. For more information, go to www.dbsa-attleboro.org.

Membership is free for people who are bipolar or suffer from depression. It is suggested that first timers arrive at 6:45 p.m. on the night of the meeting to review how the group works.

Catch meat raffles at SA Legion

ATTLEBORO - Meat raffles are being held every Saturday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Post 312, Newport Avenue, South Attleboro, sponsored by the South Attleboro Lions Club and by South Attleboro's American Legion Post 312.

Proceeds benefit scholarship funds. All meat is top cuts from the Chartley Country Store.

Parents' support group meets monthly in city

ATTLEBORO - Parents of teens discussion/support group meets the first Wednesday of every month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Murray Unitarian Universalist Church.

Wanted: Volunteers for New Hope

ATTLEBORO - New Hope, the local domestic violence and sexual assault agency, is looking for dedicated and compassionate volunteers to join its Rape Crisis Advocate Team.

As part of the on call response team, rape crisis advocates meet survivors at hospitals and police stations and provide crisis intervention, support and referrals.

Sturdy offering wellness program

ATTLEBORO - Sturdy Memorial Hospital offers a six-week wellness exercise program, designed to help participants increase fitness while they lose weight, decrease blood pressure, improve cholesterol and achieve specific health goals.

Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the cardiac pulmonary exercise facility at Sturdy Memorial Hospital. The cost for the six-week program is $120. For further information or to register, call 508-236-7390.

ATTLEBORO - Sturdy Memorial Hospital is offering "My Medical Profile" cards. These cards help individuals keep a current medication history and also list potential drug/drug or drug/food interactions.

Alzheimer's support group meets monthly

ATTLEBORO - Community VNA hosts a monthly support group designed for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias.

Joyce Colletto, RN, the Alzheimer programs liaison, will facilitate. This group meets the first Tuesday of each month from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Community VNA, 10 Emory St.
