Teens face court in wake of North Attleboro car chase

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Two teenagers who led police on a high-speed chase into Smithfield, R.I. in a stolen car after allegedly breaking into vehicles at Showcase Cinemas last week were arraigned Friday in Attleboro District Court.

Charles Robinson and Christopher O. Bryant, both 17 and of Providence, pleaded innocent to breaking and entering, vandalism charges and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Robinson, the driver, also faces traffic offenses.

They were brought back to Massachusetts Friday after police picked them up at a juvenile detention facility in Rhode Island and were among four defendants in the case.

They are accused of breaking into two cars at the Route 1 cinema Nov. 18 and fleeing at speeds of up to 100 mph on Interstate 295 into Rhode Island, where North Attleboro police broke off the chase.

Rhode Island authorities picked up the chase, which ended on Route 7 in Smithfield, R.I., when the vehicle crashed into a brushy area off the highway. A 15-year-old girl in the car has already been arraigned in Attleboro Juvenile Court and another 17-year-old, Malcolm Townes, of Providence, has asked for a hearing to fight extradition, police said. All face related charges in Rhode Island.
