FOOTBALL: Simmons powers D-R

REHOBTOH - After starting the season with six straight losses, the Dighton-Rehoboth Regional football team has put together a pretty solid run of late.

The Falcons continued their strong play Friday night with a 29-6 beating of South Coast Conference foe Greater New Bedford Voke.

D-R has now won three of its last four games to improve to 3-4 in the SCC and 3-7 overall heading into the Thanksgiving Day rivalry game with Seekonk.

John Simmons was the story in this won for D-R as he had two touchdown runs, a field goal and two more PATs, accounting for 17 of the team's 29 points. It was Simmons who opened the scoring, ripping of touchdown runs of 23 and 4 yards in the first quarter.

Nauset 14, Seekonk 13 SEEKONK - In non-league play, the Warriors dropped another close one, visiting Nauset scoring the winning points with a late touchdown in the third quarter and a two-point conversion run.

Joe Teixeira accounted for Seekonk's two touchdowns, breaking off a 64-yard run with 3:04 left in the first quarter, then returning a punt 58 yards with only 20 seconds left before halftime. However, on the punt return, the Warriors were assessed a celebration penalty and the PAT was pushed back to a 33-yard try, and Seekonk couldn't convert, keeping the score 13-6.

Nauset scored on a 61 touchdown pass with 1:04 left in the third quarter and the conversion run was good.

Teixeira didn't play for Seekonk in the second half and the Warriors also lost running back Luke Thompson to an eye injury, leaving the bulk of the running game to Bobby Jeannotte.

Nauset actually fumbled the ball away with 1:30 left in the game near midfield. Seekonk picked up two first downs but ran out of time.

Seekonk dropped to 5-4 while Nauset snapped a seven-game losing streak and improved to 2-7.

North Attleboro 38, Canton 0

CANTON - Chris Weeman had a pair of touchdown runs as the Rocketeersr closed out the Hockomock League portion of its schedule with a dominating win over Canton.

It was the third shutout of the season for the North defense. North Attleboro improved to 7-2 overall and ended up 7-1 in the Hockomock League. The team could still grab a share of the Hockomock League title should Foxboro beat Mansfield on Thanksgiving Day, but the Hornets would still go to the MIAA Playoffs by virtue of last week's 13-7 win over North.

As for Friday, North Attleboro outscored Canton 28-0 in the second half to break open an otherwise close game. Weeman's 3-yard touchdown run and Corey Wynn's PAT proved to be the only scoring of the first quarter. Wynn's 34-yard field goal in the second quarter made for a 10-0 halftime lead.

However, North took control with 14 points in the third quarter, a 4-yard touchdown pass from Ray Sturdy to Steve Rollins and a 60-yard run by Weeman. Wynn added a 4-yard TD run in the fourth quarter and Dan Johnson had a 43-yard scoring run to make for the 38-0 final.

It was the third straight loss for Canton. And, after a 3-0 start, the Bulldogs dropped to 4-5 overall.

North will travel to play rival Attleboro on Thanksgiving Day, kick off at 10 a.m. The Rocketeers are on a 14-game winning streak in the annual holiday series.
