Top Headlines AAA Southern New England's weekly survey Monday found self-serve, regular averaging $1.84 per gallon, 7 cents less than last week and $1.18 less than the $3.02 average at the close of Thanksgiving weekend last year. Prices fell 17 cents and 20 cents the previous two weeks from the respective weeks before. Costs have plunged for 11 consecutive weeks, a span that has seen prices plummet by $1.71 per gallon. Prices hit a record $4.08 July 7. A year ago costs were $3.02, according to AAA. The last time prices dropped this low was in late January of 2005, AAA said. In Rhode Island, regular gas also fell 7 cents from last week, down to $1.85. Nationally, the average for regular is $1.81 a gallon. The continuing drop in prices is attributed to the souring economy leading to a decrease in demand for gasoline. The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for regular in Massachusetts is 52 cents, from a low of $1.67 to a high of $2.19. No surprise, AAA advises motorists to shop around for the best prices in their area. Midgrade is averaging $1.99, from $1.79 to $2.43, and premium is running $2.11, with a range of $1.89 to $2.59. Diesel fell 1 cent last week to $2.99. Find the most up-to-date local gas prices with the AAA Fuel Finder by logging onto AAA.com and clicking on Gas Saving Tips
