Police seek leads in robbery

ATTLEBORO - Police are continuing to investigate an attempted robbery at a South Attleboro beauty supply store and are seeking the public's help.

A masked man attempted to rob Sally's Beauty Supply at South Attleboro Square on Route 1 around 9 p.m. Monday but fled without any cash, police said.

The man was last seen running through the parking lot and police are asking anyone who may have seen the man or has information about the crime to call the detective unit at 508-222-1259.

Detective Sgt. Arthur Brillon said the man entered the business with a black ski mask over his face and demanded that the clerk open the cash register but she refused.

The would-be robber attempted to open the cash register himself but ran out of the store after he failed to obtain any money, Brillon said. Although the man did not overtly threaten the clerk or show a weapon, Brillon said police recommend that victims comply with the demands of robbers to avoid the potential for injury.

Up to seven police officers searched the area after being notified of the robbery attempt, but no suspects were immediately found.

Brillon said investigators are pursuing leads including video surveillance, Brillon said.

The suspect was described as a white male, from 5-foot, 6-inches to 5-foot, 9-inches tall, from age 21 to 27, wearing all black, including a hooded sweatshirt. He has either blond or dirty blond hair and possibly blue eyes.

He fled on foot toward TJ Maxx and Petco, police said.

The investigation is being handled by Detective Jeffrey Peavey with the assistance of officers Timothy Cook Jr. and Yuri Bukhenik.
