NORTON - Selectmen expect to honor the Norton High School football team for reaching the Super Bowl.

Vice Chairman Timothy Giblin suggested that the board have a ceremony for the team and its cheerleaders at the Norton Public Library.

"Just let us know when to be there," said Chairwoman Mary Steele, who directed Giblin to coordinate the arrangements.

Norton lost to Arlington Catholic, 32-20, at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro on Dec. 6.

Car dealer licenses OK'd
Selectmen have approved new used car and junk car dealer licenses for a Norton business.

Selectman Stephen Gradie opposed both requests for Freeman's Garage.

Gradie questioned whether owner John Freeman actually was in business selling used cars.

Town Manager James Purcell said Freeman told him he has several projects and restores many antique cars.

Selectman Robert Kimball Jr. said the business has existed for a number of years, and "we've never challenged that before."

Gradie also questioned whether the business's 29 Ford Road address exists.

Gradie said he would not sign the junk car license unless town counsel said selectmen could do it.

At Kimball's suggestion, selectmen approved the licenses with two addresses: 29 Ford Road and 17 Freeman St., a public road which Freeman also has listed his business.

After the votes, Freeman said Ford Road is a private way.
