NORTH ATTLEBORO - The Cushman Union Church, located at the corner of May Street and Mendon Road, will celebrate the 125th anniversary of its building with a ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 14.
The church was originally founded in 1860 in the district schoolhouse, which is now known as the Little Red Schoolhouse, located at the corner of routes 1 and 1A. The church wasn't built until 1883.
The service will be on the history of the church. During the celebration and service, a time capsule will be opened that was originally buried in 1883 in the cornerstone.
The time capsule is said to contain a copy of the original address given at the laying of the cornerstone, the constitution and bylaws of the church, a copy of both the old Providence Morning Star and the Attleboro Chronicle newspapers dated 1883.
