ATTLEBORO - A Providence woman was identified this morning as the victim of Saturday's train crash at the South Attleboro commuter rail station.
Clio Chafee, 37, of Providence died Saturday when she was struck by a New York-bound Amtrak train, MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said.
The state medical examiner has not ruled on the death, Pesaturo said.
Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham said on Sunday that Chafee "jumped" in front of the train, which was bound next for Providence, about 3:34 p.m. Saturday.
The train was traveling at close to 125 mph, the maximum speed on the tracks, Graham said. An MBTA Transit police officer previously said the train was traveling at 50 to 60 mph.
