Driver had history of drunken-driving arrests
ATTLEBORO - A Norton man was sentenced to two years in jail Tuesday after pleading guilty in Attleboro District Court to a fourth-offense drunken driving charge.
Raymond E. Quimby Jr., 50, of 111 Oak St. in Norton, was arrested June 19, 2007, after rear-ending a car that stopped for a pedestrian at Park and Pine streets in Attleboro.
Quimby had a history of seven drunken-driving arrests dating back more than two decades.
He pleaded guilty to a fourth-offense charge in a plea-bargain agreement moments before going to trial on a fifth- or subsequent offense drunken driving charge.
"I'm deeply sorry," Quimby told Judge Gregory L. Phillips before being led out of the courtroom in handcuffs by a court officer.
There were no serious injuries in the accident.
Phillips ordered Quimby to serve two years of a maximum 2 1/2-year sentence with the balance suspended for three years with probation.
He also gave the defendant a concurrent two-year jail term for driving to endanger.
Quimby was also fined $1,500, and Phillips recommended that the Registry of Motor Vehicles suspends his driver's license for life.
