BASKETBALL: Donovan leads T-C boys

FRANKLIN - Junior swingman Steve Donovan scored 27 points, 10 during the third quarter, to guide the Tri-County Regional High boys' basketball team to a 77-67 victory over Bethany Christian Saturday in a non-league game.

The Cougars created a 37-30 halftime lead with good man-to-man and zone defensive pressure. "The last couple of games, the third quarter has killed us," said Tri-County coach Dave Wallace as Donovan guided the Cougars this time out.

Bethany closed the gap to three points with just over two minutes left. Donovan dominated with 14 rebounds, eight steals, six assists and three blocked shots.

In addition, the Cougars received tremendously balanced production. Andy MacKay had 11 points and five rebounds, Brian Cady-Welch had 13 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Chad Todesco (10 points) and Adam Barq (nine points) also contributed.

The Cougars (2-2) have a rematch with Bethany Tuesday night in Mendon. Seekonk girls 40, Wareham 39

WAREHAM - Despite just nine field goals for the game, the Warriors came away with a one-point victory over conference foe Wareham when Lauren Medeiros hit the back end of two free-throws with one second left.

Medeiros was fouled in the backcourt with just one second left and after missing the first free-throw (the Warriors were in the double bonus) made the second to give Seekonk its third straight victory, improving the Warriors to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the South Coast Conference.

Medieros had seven points on the game including five free-throws. The Warriors went 21-32 from the charity stripe for the game while Wareham went just 9-25.

The Warriors travel to Taunton today at 1 p.m.
