FRANKLIN - The Mansfield High Hockey team kept King Philip clear of the goal, cruising to a 5-0 win on Saturday afternoon in Franklin.
"We didn't have many scoring chances," King Philip coach Bob Piotti said. "They did an excellent job of keeping us away from the scoring area. We played a pretty good game but they did the better job of keeping us out of the scoring zone.
Brendan Carroll got the Hornets on the board just over two minutes into the first period off an assist from Joey Collins. Nick Blackman doubled the lead in the second period off assists from Mike DeGirolamo and Steve Folan before the Hornets blew it open with three third-period goals.
"We had to try to take chances at some point," Piotti said. "They put the puck in the net and we didn't."
The Warriors (1-3-1) travel to Canton on Wednesday night.
Attleboro 5, Somerset 3
FALL RIVER - The Bombardiers almost saw a 4-1 first-period lead vanish, but held on for the victory over Somerset.
In a span of just over two minutes Attleboro took a 3-0 lead in the first period after goals from Tyler Dias, Marques Menard and Derek Burns. Somerset scored to cut the lead to 3-1 but Pat Demontigny scored after good passing from Bryan Fricot and Chris Dragun to help the Bombardiers take a 4-1 lead into intermission.
But the second period was all Somerset, as the Blue Raiders outshot Attleboro 15-2 in the period in cutting the lead to 4-3.
"The first period was the best period as a team for the whole year and the second period was close to being one of our worst," Attleboro coach Mike Cripps said.
Five minutes into the third Chad Caldwell game through with a big goal to give the Bombardiers a two-goal advantage they would not relinquish. Attleboro goalkeeper Corey Escobar made 29 saves as the Bombardiers were out-shot 32-21. Attleboro (3-1-1) takes on Bishop Feehan on Wednesday.
Bishop Feehan 4, Silver Lake 3
PEMBROKE - Feehan came back from an early two-goal deficit to score a big come-from-behind victory over Sliver Lake, improving to 2-4 on the season.
The Lakers scored 39 seconds into the game and doubled their lead in the second period, but Ryan Gromley and Matt Blackman scored back-to-back goals as the second period wound down to tie the game at two heading into the third.
John Casly gave Feehan the lead for good off an assist from Blackman 3:31 into the third period and Brendan Smith added an important insurance goal three minutes later. Goalkeeper Matt Panciocco kept the Lakers off the scoreboard for much of the third period despite Silver Lake outshooting the Shamrocks 13-7 in the period.
"He slammed the door in the third period when they were putting some pressure on us," Feehan coach Phil Hulbig said.
The Shamrocks take on Attleboro on Wednesday.
Tri-County 4, South Shore Voke 1
HANOVER - Kellen Nee had two goals as Tri-County won its second game of the season.
The Cougars never trailed in the game. Alex Golash got Tri-County on the board just over five minutes into the game, and Nee made the lead 2-0 at the end of the first.
South Shore cut the lead in half in the second period but Nee made it 3-1 just four minutes later. Sam Greengus scored the final goal a minute and a half into the third period to seal the victory for the Cougars.
"We played well," Tri County coach John Harthan said. "It's coming together."
Goalkeeper Matt Moses made 29 saves for the Cougars, who improved to 2-3 (1-3 Mayflower League). Tri-County outshot South Shore 41-30.
The Cougars take on Southeastern tonight.
