TRACK: Gregorek blazes at Brown

PROVIDENCE - Seekonk's Johnny Gregorek ran the second fastest time in the nation in the 3,000 meters on Saturday at the Brown Invitational, finishing second in the race with a time of 8:46.1.
Gregorek made his final push in the last two laps of the elite race, finishing the final 800 meters in 2:15 and the final 400 meters in 63 seconds, moving him from the middle of the pack into the front.
"It was a nice strong race for him," Seekonk coach Eli Mello said.
It was only Gregorek's second time running the 3,000 meters this season, as the race is not run in Massachusetts. The junior ran the nearly two miles at a 4:40 mile pace.
**O'Brien MacHayle was a standout for BISHOP FEEHAN at the Freshman and Sophomore Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston, winning the long jump with a jump of 19-31/4 and taking sixth in the 55 meter dash. For his efforts MacHayle was honored with the outstanding field event performance award.
Viviana Hanley took second in the 1000 meters for the Shamrock girls with a time of 3:13.81, a personal best.
**FOXBORO sophomore Mike Cardarelli won the 55 meter hurdles at 8.74, while Dan Ross matched his personal best in taking third in the high jump. For the Warrior girls, Kayla Bridges reached the semifinals of the hurdles.
**Jake Medeiros took fourth place in the mile for DIGHTON-REHOBOTH with a time of 4:51, 17 seconds better than his personal best this season. For the girls, Sarah Gengron took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 28-81/2.
**NORTON freshman Page Almeida set a new school record in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:19.25, good for seventh place. Kimberly Schubert and Courtney Willams each took fourth place in the 300 meters and the 55 meter dash, respectively. For the boys Tom Johansmeyer took third in the long jump with a jump of 18-61/4.
**SEEKONK's Jennifer Salit took fifth place in the two mile with a time of 12:05 while Emily Gagliardi took 12th in the mile with a time of 5:59.8. Cody Archambault and Jacob Teixeira each took third in the two mile and 55 meter hurdles, respecively.
