NORTON - Ethan Loew and Mike Albert put their lower bodies into overdrive in running the third and fourth legs for the Bishop Feehan High 4x400 relay team, enabling the Shamrocks to take first place and take home a 49-46 victory over Somerset Thursday in a battle of unbeaten Eastern Athletic Conference powers at Wheaton College.

Albert clocked a 52.6 second anchor leg as the Shamrocks clocked their fastest time in four years in the event at 3:36.

In improving to 5-0 on the season, the Shamrocks received pairs of victories from junior Bob McShane and sophomore Obie McHale. McShane won the mile run by five seconds in 4:36 and the 1,000 by three seconds in 2:43. McHale, meanwhile, clocked a personal-best 6.4 to win the 55 dash and came back for another personal best performance in winning the long jump at 20 feet, 3 inches.

The Shamrocks claimed an all important 1-3 showing in the high jump as Sam Yoder won at 5-10 and Albert took third place in a jump off at 5-4. Also Dave Phipps won the two mile run by 12 seconds at 10:26.

The unbeaten Shamrock girls (5-0) raced to a 76-20 verdict over the Blue Raiders with Treena Schmit clocking a school record 8.7 second time in winning the 55 hurdles, in addition to taking second in the 55 dash behind teammate Hannah Cote. Jen Thomas logged a personal best 5:17 in winning the mile run and Elaine Martin clocked a season-best 43.8 time in winning the 300. Janelle McNeil won the long jump and took second in the 300, while Laura McNulty won the high jump and took second in the 55 hurdles. Both Shamrock teams return to Wheaton Thursday to meet Bishop Stang.
