Chamber to discuss employee retention
TAUNTON — The Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce’s Human Resources Committee will meet at noon Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the Holiday Inn-Taunton. The topic of discussion will be Employee Retention.
Jane Callahan of HR Alternatives/ Primary Vision Consulting will cover trends in employee retention strategies. She will discuss the changing workforce: their motivations, desires and expectations; how to keep employees happy and committed; and trends in talent management and retention strategies.

Sport cards show
set for Dec. 21
MIDDLEBORO — A “Great Pulls” sports cards and collectibles show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at Mitchell Memorial Club, 29 Elm St. (Route 28).
Len St. Jean, a lineman with the Boston and New England Patriots from 1964-73, will be signing items from 1 to 3 p.m. Admission is $2 for ages 9 to adult; free for those 8 and younger.

Conference explores agriculture Jan. 23, 24
Massachusetts town agricultural commission members, agricultural service providers, and anyone interested in protecting farming in communities across the Commonwealth are invited to the first statewide Massachusetts Agricultural Commissions Conference Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23 and 24, 2009 at the Worcester Crowne Plaza.
The one-and-a-half day conference is being organized by the Pilgrim Resource Conservation and Development Council Inc.
Some 115 Massachusetts towns have organized agricultural commissions (AgComs) to raise visibility and provide a voice for agriculture at the local level. AgComs protect farmland and farm buisnesses, identify farmers’ needs and inventory farms and farmland, help manage conflict related to agricultural issues and more.

Celtics president will speak to Chamber
TAUNTON — The Taunton Area Chamber of Commerce’s 92nd annual meeting will take place at noon Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Holiday Inn-Taunton. The event is sponsored by Rockland Trust and General Dynamics.
Rich Gotham, president of the Boston Celtics, will be the keynote speaker. He is responsible for all aspects of the Celtics business operations including sales, corporate partnerships, community and public relations, game entertainment, broadcast partnerships and arena relations.
The cost to attend is $45 for members and $55 for nonmembers. Formal invitations will be mailed out soon.
Fisk to speak at UMass event
Baseball Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk will be the keynote speaker at the 9th annual Celebrity/Scholarship Dinner of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Center for Marketing Research. The dinner will be held on Thursday, April 23, at the Venus de Milo restaurant in Swansea.
A large turnout is expected for the event. If you are interested in advertising your business or organization in the program book, a full-page ad (4.5” x 7.2”) is $250, and a half-page ad (4.5” x 3.5”) is $150. The deadline for ad copy is Friday, April 10, 2009.
