Marie Mahana, 75

MANSFIELD - Marie (Ward) Mahana, 75, of Mansfield died peacefully in the comfort of her home on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008. She was the beloved wife of the late Norman Mahana, to whom she was wed to for 45 years at the time of his death on Nov. 11, 1998.

Born in Boston on Feb. 22, 1933, she was a loving daughter of Louise (Shawne) Ward of Cohasset and the late James L. Ward.

She grew up in South Boston, was a 1951 graduate of South Boston High School and had attended Bridgewater State College. Mrs. Mahana was a retired customer service representative, having worked for Baxter International in Bedford for 15 years prior to retiring and was a former employee of the Sweet Manufacturing Co. in West Mansfield.

Marie, along with her late husband, was a former member of the Mansfield Democratic Town Committee and was also a former delegate at the Massachusetts State Convention. She was a former member of the Mansfield Social Club and was a participant in the 1975 Mansfield Bicentennial Parade.

An avid golfer and a member of several local golfing leagues, Marie also enjoyed reading and gardening in her yard. She loved traveling, and was especially fond of trips taken to New York. Spending time with her devoted family was a major part of her life.

She had made her home in Mansfield for the past 45 years and had also lived in many parts of the country while her husband served in the U.S. Air Force.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her devoted children, Donna L. Conway and her husband Kenny of Lawrenceburg, Ky., Diane L. Mahana of Mansfield and Michael D. Mahana of New York City, N.Y. She was the dear sister of James Ward of Cohasset, Edmund Ward of Kingston, Alice Ward of Manchester, N.H. and Michelle Sinclair of Attleboro. Also surviving is her loving grandson Adam P. Fogerty of Norton, her cherished great-granddaughter Lyndsey A. Fogerty of Norton and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will be private.

At the conclusion of visiting hours on Saturday, a reception will be held at the Mahana's home in Mansfield for a continued time of fellowship and refreshments.
