Carrie Muir, 91

WRENTHAM - Carrie Irene Muir, 91, of Taunton Street, Wrentham, formerly of North Attleboro and Attleboro, died on Friday, Dec. 19, 2008, two days prior to her 92nd birthday, at the Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham, where she had been a resident for the last five years. She was the wife of the late Albert G. Muir, to whom she was married in 1944 and entered into eternal rest on his birthday - Nov. 21, 1965.

Born in Stellarton, Nova Scotia, Canada on Dec. 21, 1916, she was one of 16 children born to the late William and Bessie H. (Davidson) Taylor. Raised and educated in Stellarton, she resided in her native country for many years prior to emmigrating to the United States and settling in Attleboro before moving to North Attleboro and later Wrentham.

A devoted and dedicated homemaker, she was a woman who took pride in her appearance and always acted demur and gracious.

Mrs. Muir was employed as a nurse's aide at the former Tucker's Nursing Home on South Main Street in Attleboro and later worked for many years at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro prior to her retirement at the age of 65.

Christmas was one of her favorite times of the year and she would spend days decorating her home for the holiday season.

A talented seamstress, she enjoyed baking, quilting, crocheting, knitting and reading. Her feet would gracefully glide as she enjoyed ballroom and polka dancing.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church, affectionately known as "Old Town," on Old Post Road in North Attleboro for many years.

Although a resident of the United States for decades, she never lost touch with her heritage and often returned with great anticipation to her native land to visit the many family members and friends who had remained.

She was the mother of George W. Muir and his wife, Brenda J. (Emerson) Muir, of North Attleboro; Brenda J. Trotter of North Attleboro and Brenton G. Muir and his wife, Janice L. (Baetz), of Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Canada; six grandchildren: Brenda Lee Pouliot and her husband, Kevin Pouliot, of North Attleboro; Kenneth Christopher Trotter, Jr. and his wife, Brenda Ann Trotter, of Bushnell, Fla.; Robert A. Trotter and his wife, Lisa (Laferriere) Trotter, of North Attleboro; Cheryl Lynn Smith and her husband, Lyle Smith, of North Attleboro; Carrie F. Shurr and her husband, Michael Shurr, of Ontario, Canada and Cathy J. Weaver and her husband, Robert Weaver, of Ontario, Canada; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother: Brenton Taylor of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; two sisters: Zela Fairhurst of Westville, Nova Scotia, Canada and Ethel Gordon of Acushnet and numerous generations of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 12 siblings.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson House, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, 3/4 mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Funeral Service to immediately follow visitation on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home - the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson House, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, 3/4 mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro with the Rev. James Watson, Pastor of Twin Rivers Community Church, North Washington Street, North Attleboro, officiating.

A children's room will be available during visitation and the funeral service.

Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery and Arboretum, North Attleboro.

Following graveside services, family and friends will be invited to unite for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.

Edward Crickard, 82

WRENTHAM - Edward George Crickard, 82, of Gilmore Road, Wrentham, died on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Caritas-Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Eileen (Hickey) Crickard, whom he married on April 14, 1951.

Born in Boston on Dec. 4, 1926, he was a loving son of the late Edward and Beatrice (McCarthy) Crickard. He was educated in Boston schools, and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

His service was concentrated in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre of operations, with him being stationed principally in the Philippines. Prior to his honorable discharge, he had attained the rank of seaman first class.

A hard-working man, he had been a lineman for the Boston Edison Company. At the time of his retirement, he was working as a supervisor for the utility.

He and his wife had made Wrentham their home and had enjoyed lakeside living at Lake Pearl since 1978.

He loved to sail on the lake, and had enjoyed using the pontoon boat that he and his wife kept docked at their home.

In addition to his devoted and caring wife, he is also survived by a loving son, Edward and his wife Patricia Crickard of Plymouth; a dear sister, Virginia Gagnon of Florida; a cherished grandson, Edward Crickard; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday, Dec. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the RJ Ross Funeral Home, 135 South St., Route 1A, Wrentham Center.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, 140 South St., Wrentham Center. Burial will follow in the Wrentham Centre Cemetery.

Manuel DeMedeiros, 86

ATTLEBORO - Manuel DeMedeiros, 86, of Thacher Street, Attleboro, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed Friday morning, Dec. 19, 2008 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Maria Lurdes (Farias) DeMedeiros.

Born in Candelaria, St. Michael, Azores on Sept. 3, 1922, Manuel was a son of the late Jose M. and Margarida Rocha. He settled in Attleboro in 1968.

Mr. DeMedeiros was employed as a stamper at the Robbins Company in Attleboro for over 20 years, retiring in 1991.

A communicant of Holy Ghost Church in Attleboro, Manuel enjoyed gardening and masonry work.

In addition to his beloved wife, Maria, Manny is survived by three sons: Fernando F. DeMedeiros and his wife Maria F. Simas DeMedeiros of North Attleboro, and Gaulter F. DeMedeiros and Noe F. DeMedeiros, both of Attleboro; two brothers: Jose M. Rocha and Humberto M. Rocha, both of Attleboro; a sister, Lidia Oliveira of St. Michael, Azores; four grandchildren: David DeMedeiros, Michelle Soares, Stephen DeMedeiros and Jessica DeMedeiros; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was the beloved father of the late Jose F. DeMedeiros, who passed on Sept. 19, 1998.

Family and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, Dec. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, 20 Peck St., Attleboro.

A funeral will be conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 24 at 9 a.m. from the Duffy-Poule Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Ghost Church, 71 Linden St., Attleboro celebrated by the Rev. John Raposo, pastor. Mr. DeMedeiros will be laid to rest in St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro.

Mary Ann Williams, 96

MANSFIELD - Mary Ann (Peters) Williams of the Village at Willow Crossings, Mansfield, and recently of the Maples Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wrentham, passed on to her eternal home on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008. She was the loving and faithful wife to Donald, husband of 63 years.

She was the beloved mother of Jann Badlissi and husband Antoine, and grandmother of Joseph and Alexander, all of Easton. Mary is also survived by a sister, Ella Jacobson of Los Alamos, N.M., as well as numerous nieces and nephews scattered across the country.

Ella, at 96, was able to make her annual trip to see Mary in June. Both were able to recount many stories of long ago and sit in obvious enjoyment of one another's company. She is preceded in death by a son, Todd, and brothers Aulden and Russell Peters.

Mary loved music. Whether with the Masterwork Chorus singing at Carnegie Hall, choral groups in Iran where she lived for several years, or with many church choirs, Mary would sing.

Born in Wadena, Iowa, burial will be in Illyria, Iowa.
