Hockomock Area Y plans dances, events for teens in January

NORTH ATTLEBORO - There is plenty for teenagers to choose from at the Hockomock Area YMCA in January, including the following:

On Wednesday, Jan. 7, Junior Teen Leaders will hold an open meeting from 6 to 7 p.m. in the camp building located on the property of the North Attleboro branch of the YMCA at 300 Elmwood St. This program is the introductory program for middle school students interested in becoming a senior leader. Students will meet weekly and participate in team building and monthly community service projects as well as social activities.

Teen nights have been scheduled for Jan. 10 and 24 from 7 to 10 p.m. Teens ages 11-17 will have full use of the basketball gym, swimming pool and youth fitness center. Special activities are planned and will take place in the lobby at the North Attleboro branch location. Entrance to YMCA teen members is free and guests are $5; please have prearranged rides waiting at pick-up.

A fifth- and sixth-grade dance is scheduled for Jan. 17 and 31 from 7 to 10 p.m. DJ Big Citrus will play top hits as well as line-dancing favorites, and prizes will be offered. The cost is $6 per student.

On Jan. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is the American Red Cross baby-sitting class. Teens will complete a day of training and will be officially certified. This class also includes first aid certification.
