Joseph Parisi, 83

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Joseph Parisi, 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Dorothy (Soldano) Parisi. They were married for 61 years.

Born in Bristol, R.I., he was a son of the late Domenic Parisi and the late Annie (Matrone) Parisi and a brother of the late Michael Parisi, the late Aniello Parisi, the late Pasquale Parisi and Anthony Parisi of Riverside, R.I.

Mr. Parisi was a 1943 graduate of Colt Memorial High School in Bristol, where he was senior class president. He earned All-State honors in basketball in 1943 and in baseball in 1942 and 1943. Upon graduation, he was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers.

He instead enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a medical corpsman during World War II. After his honorable discharge, he returned to live in Bristol, married his high school sweetheart, Dottie, and began a career as a sales agent for Allstate Insurance Company, where he remained until his retirement in 1990. In 1985, he was elected to the Bristol Sports Hall of Fame.

A loving and compassionate husband, father and grandfather, and a devout Catholic, he was a lifelong communicant of St. Martha's Church in East Providence, R.I., where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Joseph Parisi Jr. and his wife Linda of Cumberland, R.I. and Anthony Parisi and his wife Eileen (Gravel) Parisi of South Attleboro; and four grandchildren, Joseph "Chip" Parisi III, Tara Van Tassel, Dr. Troy Parisi and Cherie Parisi.

His funeral will be held Saturday, Jan. 31 at 10 a.m. from the Perry/McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Martha's Church, Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. Burial with military honors will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held today, Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Parisi's memory to Elmhurst Extended Care, 50 Maude St., Providence, RI 02908 would be deeply appreciated.

Richard W. Mueller Jr. 65

Accomplished bass fisherman

SATSUMA, FLA. - Richard William Mueller Jr., 65, of Satsuma, Fla. died unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 19, 2009 at the Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. He was the brother of Judy Corbett of Attleboro and the longtime companion of Mary Steele of Welaka, Fla.

Born in Attleboro on Dec. 12, 1943, he was the son of the late Richard W. Mueller Sr. and Alice Aleda Croteau.

Mr. Mueller attended Attleboro public schools, and graduated from Attleboro High School in 1961.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1961 to 1965.

He was an avid golfer and an accomplished professional bass fisherman.

Prior to working as a professional guide for CSX Corporation in Florida, Mr. Mueller regularly competed in organized bass fishing tournaments in the Northeast.

He was recognized among the region's most skilled anglers during the mid-80s. While being a member and former president of the Bass Assassins Fishing Club, he won three different Massachusetts Bass Federation tournaments and finished in the top 10 on numerous occasions. Mr. Mueller won the prestigious Angler of the Year Award from the North American Bass Association for the highest point total following five tournaments, held across the Northeast in 1987.

Mr. Mueller successfully guided for corporate and private clients until his passing.

He will be missed by his family, friends and numerous fishing colleagues and clients.

In addition to his sister, Mr. Mueller leaves two nephews, Jeffrey Corbett of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Gregory Corbett of Attleboro.

He was the former husband of Mary Clarkin.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a memorial visitation on Saturday, Jan. 31 from 11 a.m. to noon in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson House, 161 Commonwealth Ave. (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, 3/4 mile on left), Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to follow visitation on Saturday, Jan. 31 at noon in the Memorial Chapel of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson House, 161 Commonwealth Ave. (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, 3/4 mile on left), Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro, with the Rev. Victor Chaupetta, M.S., officiating.

Burial will be private.

A children's room will be available during visitation and funeral service.

Hilda Moreno-Ramos, 71

ATTLEBORO - Hilda E. Moreno-Ramos, 71, a 36-year resident of Attleboro, died on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro. She was the wife of the late Agustin Ramos.

She was born on Nov. 6, 1937 in Juana Diaz, Puerto Rico.

She leaves two daughters, Luz Amaro and Ana M. Rivera; two sons, Raymond and Arcadio Navarro; six stepchildren: Millie, Gricelia, Jose, Agustin Jr., Mayra and Yolanda Ramos; 12 grandchildren: Felix, Ana, and Luis Tirado and Liz Andra, Emily and Efrain Jr. Rodriquez, and Arcadio, Lucy, Yasmin, Elisa and Raymond Arcadio Navarro; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Irma, Iris and Aida; and two brothers who passed away who lived in New York and Puerto Rico.

Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be held Saturday, Jan. 31 from 4:30 to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. from the Heroes de la Fe, 40 James St., Attleboro.

Monday, Feb. 2 there will be visiting hours and a funeral service from 9 a.m. to noon. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery in Attleboro.
