Edward Healey Sr., 87
ATTLEBORO - Edward J. Healey Sr. died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009 at St. Anne's Hospital, Fall River after a period of declining health.
Born March 20, 1921 in Boston, he was the son of the late Attorney Thomas S. and Mary I. (McCaffrey) Healey.
A longtime resident of Attleboro, he was a graduate of Attleboro High School and president of the Class of 1939 who dedicated himself to keeping the class members united across the years through his correspondence and his efforts to organize their reunions.
During World War II, Mr. Healey served as a pharmacist's mate in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater. Following his military service, he completed his education at the then-Babson Institute in Wellesley, graduating in 1946.
In 1951, Mr. Healey married Viola M. Murray. They had two children, Rosemary of Attleboro, and Rev. Edward J. Healey of West Harwich. Mrs. Healey predeceased him in 1989.
Beginning in 1954, Mr. Healey was elected to seven terms as City Treasurer of Attleboro; he left public service when invited to become an officer of the former Attleboro Trust Company, where he remained until his retirement.
Mr. Healey was a part of the third generation of his family to be members of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Attleboro, where for many years he served as an usher at the early Masses on Sundays.
While city treasurer, Mr. Healey was a member of the board of trustees of Sturdy Memorial Hospital, Attleboro, and he was active in the Massachusetts Treasurers and Collectors Association, serving a term as president of the organization. During his years at the Attleboro Trust Company, he was active in both the Attleboro and North Attleboro Kiwanis clubs and served as treasurer of the Attleboro Area Chamber of Commerce.
He was an honorary life member of the Attleboro Lodge of Elks and the Gilbert Perry Post VFW of Attleboro. Throughout his active years, Mr. Healey was frequently called upon to be master of ceremonies and toastmaster at testimonials and banquets in Attleboro.
In addition to his daughter and son, Mr. Healey is survived by his grandson, Daniel Healey-Rose; his brother, Thomas S. Healey of Attleboro; his brother and sister-in law, Robert J. and Patricia Healey of Attleboro Falls; nieces and nephews among the Healey and Murray families, and classmates and friends of many years.
Rev. Edward J. Healey Jr. will celebrate a funeral Mass for his father Friday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main Street - Route 152, Attleboro.
A committal service will take place Saturday, Feb. 28 at 9:30 a.m. at St. John's Cemetery, West Street, Attleboro.
Visiting hours will be held prior to the funeral Mass Friday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home, 161 Commonwealth Ave., Attleboro Falls.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Healey's memory to St. John the Evangelist Church, 133 North Main St., Attleboro, or to its St. Vincent de Paul Society.

Elizabeth Fuery, 82
PLAINVILLE - Elizabeth M. "Betty" Fuery, 82, of School Street passed away early Wednesday morning, Feb. 25, 2009 at Epoch Senior Healthcare of Norton. She was the beloved wife of John Fuery for over 53 years until his death in 2000.
Born April 10, 1926 in North Attleboro, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Hazel (Baxter) Havey.
Betty grew up in North Attleboro and was a 1944 graduate of North Attleboro High School. Upon marrying her husband, they moved to Plainville.
Betty worked in the business office at the Plainville Stock Company for 20 years before retiring in 1989.
She was a longtime communicant of St. Martha's Church in Plainville and was active in the Catholic Women's Club. She also volunteered as a Brownie Scout leader for several years.
Betty was an avid reader, knitter and enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her three daughters: Susan, the wife of the late Edward Kettell of Plainville, Elizabeth and her husband George Bergman of Attleboro and Joan and her husband John Picini of North Attleboro; her grandchildren: John and his wife Jessica Kettell of Attleboro, Amy Kettell of Plainville, Julie and Stephanie Bergman of Attleboro, and Brendan and Jordan Picini of North Attleboro; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Fiona Kettell, and several nieces and nephews.
She was sister of the late Anne Travers.
A funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. from the Sperry & McHoul Funeral Home, 15 Grove St., North Attleboro, followed by a Mass in St. Martha's Church, 227 South St. (Route 1A), Plainville at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Attleboro Falls.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Jean Henri Joyal, 72
ATTLEBORO - Jean Henri Joyal, 72, of South Main Street, Attleboro, died unexpectedly after being stricken ill on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009 upon arrival at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the husband of the late Anita Louise (Proulx) Joyal, to whom he was married on Sept. 28, 1963 and who died on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008.
Born in Lawrence on July 3, 1936, he was a son of the late Armand and Ernestine (Brouillard) Joyal. In his infancy, he and his family moved from Lawrence to Pawtucket, where he lived for many years prior to moving to Attleboro in 1963.
He was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Central Falls, R.I.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force and later served in the Army National Guard.
As a painting contractor, Mr. Joyal was the owner and operator of the former Jean H. Joyal Contracting Company in Attleboro for 38 years prior to his retirement in 1995.
Mr. Joyal was a faithful communicant of St. Stephen's Roman Catholic Church in the Dodgeville section of the City of Attleboro.
He was a former member of the St. John Council No. 404 of the Knights of Columbus in Attleboro where he was the former grand knight.
Mr. Joyal enjoyed gardening and woodworking but most of all treasured the time spent with his cherished family.
He leaves five children: Jacqueline M. O'Brien of Attleboro, Jean A. Joyal of Plainville, Peter D. Joyal of Rehoboth, Christopher J. Joyal of Attleboro and Suzanne M. Candelet of Attleboro Falls; nine grandchildren; his siblings: Mariette Bruneau of Attleboro, Albert Joyal of Westbrook, Conn., Vivian Lejeune of Succasunna, N.J., Helene Geoffroy of Pawtucket, Colette Robichaud of Pawtucket, and Anne Brunelle of Pawtucket, and numerous nieces, nephews and several extended family members.
He was the grandfather of the late Karleigh Joyal, who died in 2000, and was the brother of the late Rita Sherlock, Pauline Barrette and Armand Joyal.
Visitation has been respectfully omitted.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, March 2 at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 683 South Main Street - Route 152, Attleboro, with the Rev. James Morse, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be private.
Following services, an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.

Diane Sanuth, 41
WRENTHAM - Diane Marie (Feeney) Sanuth of Wrentham, where she lived for 10 years, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 surrounded by her loving family. She was 41.
Formerly of Hyde Park and Stoughton, she was born in Boston, the daughter of John P. and Catherine M. (Contarino) Feeney of Wrentham. She was a 1986 graduate of Hyde Park Academy, and received a bachelor's degree in nursing from Simmons College in 1998, under the Dix Scholar Program, and had worked as a registered nurse.
Diane was a loving friend to many.
The devoted wife of Carl M. Sanuth, she was the loving mother of C.J. and Cameron Sanuth of Wrentham, and the sister of John Feeney and his wife Sheila of Norfolk, Deborah Sullivan and her husband Kyle of Canton, Patrick Feeney and his wife Karen of Canton, Paul Feeney of Wrentham, Christine Gonzalez and her husband Joseph of Wrentham and Catherine Tobin and her husband Christopher of Milton. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 9 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 130 South St., Wrentham, followed by burial in Center Cemetery in Wrentham.
Visiting hours are Friday, Feb. 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the R.J. Ross Funeral Home, 135 South St., Wrentham.

Sharon Rapoza-Connor, 63
CUMBERLAND, R.I. - Sharon Rapoza-Connor of Cumberland, R.I., formerly of Mansfield, died unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009. She was 63.
Born in Newport, R.I., on Oct. 29, 1945, Ms. Rapoza-Connor was the daughter of the late Wendell and Viola (Perry) Herbert. She was a graduate of Portsmouth High School in Portsmouth, R.I., and attended Salve Regina University in Newport.
She worked as an office manager for CMT Inc. in Attleboro for the past four years, and enjoyed boating.
She is survived by her three sons: Scott Rapoza and his wife Lisa of Attleboro, David Rapoza and his wife Shelley of Mansfield and Russ Rapoza and his wife Missy of Mansfield. Ms. Rapoza-Connor is also survived by her six grandchildren: Cassie, Nick, Robbie, Carly, Ally and Danny Rapoza.
A funeral service will be held Friday, Feb. 27 at 8 p.m. in the Bolea-Amici Funeral Home, 115 North Main St., Mansfield. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.
Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 5 to 8 p.m.
Interment will be private. |
