Brendan McGovern

WRENTHAM - Marine Corps Second Lt. Brendan J. McGovern, son of Janice M. and Jerome P. McGovern of Wrentham, recently received his commission as an officer in the Marine Corps after completing Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Quantico, Va.

McGovern is a graduate of King Philip Regional High School and George Washington University of Washington, D.C., with a BA degree.

During the 10-week-long training program, McGovern received extensive instruction on a variety of specialized subjects including Marine Corps history, tactics, operations and organization, land navigation and other military subjects. McGovern also completed a demanding daily physical fitness program that involved running, pullups, obstacle and endurance courses and calisthenics.

In addition, McGovern and fellow OCS graduates received leadership training and instruction on the importance of the Marine Corps core values - honor, courage and commitment; and how their meaning impacts the personal and professional conduct of men and women serving in the Marine Corps around the world.
