ATTLEBORO - A 37-year-old man was arraigned Monday on charges he had two stolen GPS systems, cigarettes, a camera and loose change from cars he allegedly broke into on Hayward and Parker streets.
Gordon L. Davis Jr., 37, who had no permanent address, was ordered held in jail on $12,000 cash after pleading innocent in Attleboro District Court. Davis was arrested by Officer Brent Poirier just after 1 a.m. Sunday while walking on North Main Street.
Prosecutor Sue Bayly said Davis resembled the description and wore similar clothing to a man witnessed by victims who subsequently identified him as the culprit after his arrest two hours later.
Bayly said Davis has a lengthy criminal record dating back to when he was a juvenile, including 21 convictions for breaking and entering and six for auto theft. He faces charges of breaking and entering, possession of burglar's tools, receiving stolen property and disturbing the peace. Mansfield police also filed domestic assault charges against him for an unrelated incident last week involving his girlfriend.
His lawyer, Paula Motaco-Plouffe of Taunton, argued that her client says he repairs broken GPS systems for resale. She also said his girlfriend did not immediately report the alleged assault and changed her version of events.
Davis is due back in court April 8.
